Apple unveiled its newest flagship smartphones — iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max — during a packed broadcast from its spaceship-like headquarters in Cupertino, California, earlier this week, alongside the brand-new iPhone Air, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and all-new AirPods Pro 3. If you're looking to buy the ultra-thin new iPhone Air, we've rounded up the best iPhone Air deals for you, too.

The iPhone 17 Pro starts at £1099, while the larger Pro Max model begins at £1,199. Both of these handsets are available in the following three vibrant finishes:

  • Deep blue
  • Cosmic orange
  • Silver

The iPhone 17 Pro is available in four storage configurations, with UK prices of:

  • 256GB | £1,099
  • 512GB | £1,299
  • 1TB | £1,499

iPhone 17 Pro Max ships with a minimum of 256GB onboard storage — with a massive 2TB for the first time. The full list of storage options and prices for the iPhone 17 Pro Max is:

  • 256GB | £1,199
  • 512GB | £1,399
  • 1TB | £1,599
  • 2 TB | £1,999

Out of the box, iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will have iOS 26 installed, the latest mobile operating system from Apple. It introduces an entirely new design to the software, known as Liquid Glass, which Apple called its "broadest design update ever" when it was unveiled during its Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this summer.

As the name suggests, Liquid Glass adds translucency throughout iOS, preventing icons and menus from drawing attention away from whatever you're doing on-screen. The design team at Apple has also added light refractions and springy animations throughout, which makes iOS feel more alive.

The new look arrives across all Apple devices at the same time, including iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Vision Pro, and Apple TV — so iPhone owners should feel familiar with these other platforms. Apple has been unifying its operating systems for some time, but this is the first time everything has changed at the same time.

Elsewhere, Messages borrows a few features from WhatsApp, including typing indicators for every person in a group chat. You'll also be able to send polls and set a custom background to your conversations and group chats, picking between a slew of preinstalled options, photos from your library, or generating a never-before-seen image with Image Playground.

Plugging your iPhone 17 Pro or 17 Pro Max into a compatible infotainment system will bring its new Liquid Glass appearance to CarPlay too. New features in Apple Maps, which track Visited Places with end-to-end encryption and intelligently learns your daily routes to preemptively provide delay notifications and alternative suggestions, will also be accessible via CarPlay.

As you'd expect, Apple's software engineers have packed iOS 26 with smaller adjustments too, like new ringtones, the ability to adjust the snooze duration, fullscreen animated album artwork from Apple Music on the Lock Screen, and a new Hold Assist feature that keeps your spot in a queue so you don't have to stay on the phone when you're put on hold.

Best iPhone 17 Pro deals

If you're hoping to buy a new iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max outright and pair it with your existing SIM—or any SIM-only deal — then buying direct from the Apple Store isn't your only option.

Some of the biggest online retailers in the UK and mobile networks have launched preorder offers for those who want to jump into the (digital) queue. John Lewis, Currys, Amazon, and Very are selling the complete iPhone 17 Pro lineup in their online stores.

Discounts on the iPhone are pretty rare, but before these handsets have even launched, you're not going to see any sizeable price drops. Instead, you're likely going to be paying RRP for these all-new devices, so we'd recommend shopping with a retailer that you trust to ship the new iPhone to you on release date, or with a decent returns policy.

We've rounded up links to preorder as soon as possible, so you can get started with your new iPhone as close to the release date.

Sky Mobile

If you want to preorder the iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max on a pay monthly deal, then Sky Mobile is offering unlimited data at their lowest ever price of £19 when you upgrade. This includes unlimited calls and texts. iPhone 17 Pro will be available from £35 per month, while the top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max will be priced from £38 per month. All pay monthly plans with these Pro-grade handsets come with no upfront fee. Plus, you can get up to £560 off when you trade in your old phone.

They also offer a data plan that costs £8 a month for 5GB of 5G data, with unlimited calls and texts.

That might not seem like a lot, but one of the best perks of picking Sky Mobile over its rivals is that any mobile data used within Sky-owned apps will never count towards your monthly allowance. Yes, you can stream endlessly from Sky Go, Sky Sports, and other Sky apps over 5G with no risk of burning through your monthly data allowance.

That means you can spend hours binge-watching series like House of the Dragon, Chernobyl, The White Lotus, Succession, and Euphoria on Sky Go, and you won't use a single megabyte of 5G data. Likewise, you can stream live Premier League matches from Sky Sports HD on Sky Go without spending a penny extra on your monthly bills.

If you're a Sky TV viewer, this is a sizeable perk — and you'd need to spend a lot of money on a sizeable 5G data plan with other networks to enjoy the same experience.

O2

iPhone 17 Pro costs £64.29 per month with a £30 upfront fee for unlimited data on a 36-month contract.

O2 is also offering customers up to £794 off when you trade in your old device via O2's recycling program.

It's also worth noting that O2 remains one of the few UK mobile networks that doesn't charge EU roaming fees, so you'll be able to take your 5G data abroad with you. All of these plans also entitle you to its O2 Priority rewards.

O2 offers two additional plan options beyond the Classic Plan. The Plus Plan, available for £3.99 extra per month, includes O2 Switch Up, O2 Travel Inclusive Zone, which adds an extra 27 destinations outside Europe, as well as a three-year warranty.

Both upgraded plans provide enhanced flexibility and additional O2 Extras compared to the standard Classic Plan.

O2 offers additional perks for Virgin Media broadband customers through its Volt benefits. These include a broadband speed boost to the next available tier at no extra cost. Customers also receive the UK's market-leading WiFi guarantee, promising minimum download speeds of 30Mbps in every room or £100 credit back.

Volt perks extend to mobile plans, doubling data allowances on eligible O2 plans within the household. For instance, a 10GB plan would be boosted to 20GB at no additional charge. Perhaps most notably, Volt customers gain access to inclusive data roaming in 75 destinations worldwide, including America and Australia, in addition to the standard 49 European destinations.

EE

iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max are all available on EE's 5G Standalone service. It promises increased speeds, improved reliability, and even better battery life for the smartphones connected to it.

EE's Essential Plus Plan for iPhone is one of EE's tiered monthly plan options, starting from £52.79 per month plus a £30 upfront fee, rising to £55.82 monthly for the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the same upfront fee. All these plans come with unlimited 5G data, unlimited text messages, and unlimited calls to UK landlines and mobiles.

If you want some additional perks, the EE Full Works Plan for iPhone package costs £64.79 per month for iPhone 17 Pro and £67.82 per month for the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Again, all of these plans land with a £30 upfront fee that you'll need to pay at checkout today.

The Full Works Plan includes Apple One bundle, which combines Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+ with 50GB storage. Not only that, but EE will include unlimited data and roaming, unlimited mobile data for any paired Apple Watch, and Network Boost for enhanced performance in busy areas. EE's Network Boost feature ensures enhanced performance in busy areas, working across 4G and non-standalone 5G networks to allocate more capacity and maintain excellent performance.

Tesco Mobile

Tesco Mobile will be offering £72 off to Clubcard members on the new iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. This includes a 36-month contract, 100GB of data, and unlimited texts and calls.

Prices for the iPhone 17 Pro start at £55.99 per month, whereas the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at £58.99.

Tesco's Clubcard is a free loyalty program that rewards you for everyday shopping. You earn 1 point for every £1 spent at Tesco, which can be redeemed for discounts in-store, online, or with over 100 Reward Partners, often doubling their value.

Tesco Mobile is a UK mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) jointly owned by Tesco and O2. It uses O2’s infrastructure, giving it wide 4G coverage (around 99% of the UK) with increasing 5G availability.

What's new in iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max?

Apple has shaken up the design of its Pro-level smartphones for the first time since iPhone 11 Pro, which launched back in September 2019. Gone is the square camera housing, replaced with a new camera bar that runs the width of the handset, dubbed the "plateau" by Apple. While the triple-camera system is still aligned to the left side of the handset, the LED flash and LiDAR depth sensor shift rightwards.

It looks unlike any iPhone we've seen released by the team at Cupertino before. As such, there'll be no mistaking that you've got the latest-and-greatest iPhone the second that you pull it from your pocket or bag. If that's not enough of a statement for you, the vibrant new Cosmic Orange colourway should do the trick.

While the pricier Pro models used to favour more muted tones, the Apple design team has taken a very different approach this time around. iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max ship in Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver.

“iPhone 17 Pro is by far the most powerful iPhone we’ve ever made, with a stunning new design rebuilt from the inside out to maximise performance and deliver an enormous leap in battery life,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “With three 48MP Fusion cameras, a new Centre Stage front camera experience, and pro-level video features, the creative opportunities are endless. iPhone 17 Pro sets a new standard for the smartphone industry and is a massive upgrade for our most demanding users.”

As well as a new industrial design, Apple has turned to a new material for its iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Gone is the titanium chassis used exclusively on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro lineup, replaced with a new unibody frame milled from a single piece of aluminium. If that sounds familiar, it's likely because Apple uses a unibody design for its bestselling laptops, including the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

According to the Cupertino company, the brushed aerospace-grade aluminium is lightweight and offers the best-ever thermal performance from an iPhone. That's critical in a handset with a chipset like the A19 Pro, which Apple says can offer "MacBook-like performance".

Heat needs to be removed to keep running the system-on-a-chip at full pelt. To ensure everything stays cool — even when playing the most graphics-intensive games for hours on end — Apple has fitted a custom-designed vapour chamber to bolster heat dissipation. Deionised water is sealed inside the chamber, which is laser-welded into the new-look chassis to move heat away from the powerful A19 Pro.

There are two other perks of this new aluminium case, Apple announced during its keynote. The new "plateau" design for the triple-cameras has freed up space for other internal components — making room for a bigger battery inside the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Second, the antenna can trace the perimeter of the plateau to bolster the mobile signal, so you should enjoy a strong 5G signal indoors and outdoors.

Aside from the plateau, the biggest change to the rear panel of the iPhone 17 Pro is the two-tone design. There's a cut-out in the middle of the 7000-series aluminium alloy where Apple has fitted a panel of glass to enable wireless charging via MagSafe, as well as other magnetic accessories, like the FineWoven Wallet.

That panel glass is the new Ceramic Shield 2 toughened glass, which Apple says is 3x more resistant to scuffs and scratches. If you're prone to butterfingers, this is the iPhone to buy. You'll find Ceramic Shield 2 on the front of the handset too, shielding the 6.3- or 6.9-inch Super Retina Display XDR.

It's an always-on display, so you'll be able to check the time and notifications at a glance. It comes equipped with Apple's ProMotion screen technology, which intelligently adjusts the refresh rates of the panel between 1Hz for maximum efficiency up to 120Hz for buttery-smooth system animations and fast-paced gameplay.

Playing games should be a breeze on the A19 Pro system-on-a-chip, the same silicon under the bonnet of the iPhone Air that offers MacBook-like performance. Inside the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, you'll be looking at 40% better sustained performance compared to the Pro-level models launched last year — perfect if you're into mobile gaming, video editing, or other performance-intensive tasks.

The six-core processor is the fastest you'll find in any smartphone today. It works alongside a six-core graphics unit that includes neural accelerators in each core, plus there's a 16-core Neural Engine for AI tasks.

That's not the only custom-designed chipset from Apple inside the new Pro-level handsets. There's a new N1 wireless chip inside that unlocks Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Apple says it should also improve the performance of features like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop.

animated GIF of the plateau design of the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro MaxThat expanded camera bump? Apple calls it the "plateau" and it's used to house the camera components, including a new 8x tetraprism zoom lens as well as an antenna band for improved 5G signal | APPLE PRESS OFFICE

The camera system is always one of the biggest differentiators between the Pro-level iPhone models and the standard handsets. Apple has equipped its iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max with three 48MP Fusion cameras, which it says unlock the equivalent of eight professional lenses in your pocket. You'll be able to shoot lossless photos at 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 4x, and 8x levels of zoom, with the final images produced at 24MP to maximise the built-in storage on the new handsets.

The new 48MP telephoto camera offers a 56% larger image sensor than its predecessor, capturing sharper images in bright conditions and more detail in tough, low-light environments. The new triple-camera system should be a boon for video creators too, since these are the first smartphones to support ProRes RAW, Log 2, and genlock — features that professional filmmakers have been waiting for.

For those who don't know, genlock technology lets you synchronise video across multiple cameras perfectly, eliminating hours of manual alignment work. During its keynote, Apple demonstrated the feature with a short clip showing the Matrix-style bullet time of a sportsperson shot entirely on iPhones.

Genlock is supported by the new Blackmagic Design Camera ProDock, while ProRes RAW works with Final Cut Camera and Blackmagic Camera apps.

The front-facing camera has had an upgrade, too. Apple has fitted a new 18MP Centre Stage camera with a square sensor that lets you shoot portrait or landscape while holding your phone vertically. Without adjusting your grip on the handset, AI will automatically zoom-out to make sure everyone is visible in the viewfinder.

You can even record with front and rear cameras simultaneously using Dual Capture, perfect for vloggers who want to capture themselves and the action behind them. The Centre Stage front camera adds ultra-stabilised 4K HDR recording too. During FaceTime calls or video meetings, it'll keep you framed even as you move around.

It's the same system we've seen on recent MacBook Air and iPad models.

iPhone 17 Pro Max offers the best battery life ever in an iPhone.

According to Apple's own tests, iPhone 17 Pro can withstand up to 31 hours of video playback before it runs out of juice, while iPhone 17 Pro Max tops that with 37 hours of video playback.

When it's time to recharge, both of these new handsets can charge 50% in 20 minutes with a high-wattage USB-C power adapter.

A19 Pro unlocks the complete suite of Apple Intelligence features, including real-time translation during FaceTime and phone calls, automatic screening of spam calls, the ability to remove unwanted people and objects from the background of your photos, and dozens more. Many of these features run on-device, with the powerful chipset doing most of the heavy lifting, so you aren't reliant on an internet connection to use features like Writing Tools and auto-summarisation of your notifications.
