Griffith says the UK is rolling out this fastest form of broadband faster than any other European country

Andrew Griffith says the Government is on a push to provide high-speed broadband across the UK, including to those in rural areas.

Speaking to GB News he said: “This is very important, and it's why the good news is that eight out of 10 people do now have access to gigabit broadband that's the fastest at around 1000 megabits per second.

“But we're very conscious as a government of those who don't yet have those benefits, which is why we've got this programme to go to all of the hard to reach places.

“You know, they tend to be quite rural. They're the ones who are still looking at those ‘wheels of death’, and so the government's putting a lot of money here.

“The UK is rolling out this fastest form of broadband faster than that of any other European country. We're on track to get to 85% by 2025. We're doing it precisely because it's so important to people.

“It allows them to stay in touch with their loved ones and can probably avoid a few family fights at Christmas, as people are trying to download movies and the kids are playing games at the same time.

“But there's also a serious point for businesses: so many small, particularly rural enterprises depend on broadband and if they don't have the same access to that faster broadband, they're at a real disadvantage. So we're putting our money where our mouth is.

“We're on track. And we really understand the fatality of this to a modern economy and toward the modern ways of life."
