Laura Robson was left red-faced on live television after accidentally putting her foot in it with tennis great Martina Navratilova during Sky Sports’ US Open coverage.
The punditry team were discussing a light-hearted moment from Aryna Sabalenka’s match on Friday night, when a fan proposed to his partner in the stands of Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Cameras caught the romantic gesture during a changeover, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Sabalenka later admitted it was “a very sweet moment” — though she also joked it wasn’t her idea of a dream proposal.

Presenter Gigi Salmon put the question to the Sky panel about whether they would enjoy being proposed to in such a public setting.
Robson didn’t hold back. She said: “I couldn’t think of anything worse, honestly."
What Robson didn’t know was that her fellow panellist, 18-time Grand Slam champion Navratilova, had actually proposed to her wife Julia at the US Open.
“I proposed to Julia on Ashe 11 years ago,” Navratilova revealed, sending the studio into fits of laughter.

A mortified Robson immediately covered her face with her hands before pretending to walk off set.
“I’ll just show myself out! I did not know that,” she joked, still cringing as Tim Henman and the rest of the panel teased her.
Navratilova then told the story in full.

“It was during a match, they did a thing on the changeover, they showed us on the screen,” she recalled.
“I got down on my knee and Julia was like looking at me. I was like, ‘Can you please say something? My knees are killing me.’ She finally said yes — it took her a while though. It was a surprise.”
Henman chipped in: “It’s quite hot in here all of a sudden, isn’t it, Laura?”
Salmon also pressed Robson on how she was feeling.
The 30-year-old tried to salvage the moment, pointing out: “And they’re still together.”
Navratilova hugged her afterwards to show there were no hard feelings, while Robson attempted to change the subject: “Wow, there’s a lot of tennis on today, isn’t there!”

The joke, however, lingered.
After a short break and VT, Henman admitted: “I’m still thinking about the proposal.”
Navratilova even came to Robson’s rescue by clarifying: “Well, it was in the day session. You were talking about the night session — big difference.”
