Tiaras are not always worn at second weddings for members of the Royal Family

As Peter Phillips prepares to marry Harriet Sperling next month, attention has turned to whether Princess Anne will lend her future daughter-in-law one of the tiaras from her personal collection.

Mr Phillips, the eldest grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II, will marry Ms Sperling on June 6 in what friends describe as an "intimate occasion."

The 48-year-old, who holds no official royal titles and has largely remained outside the spotlight, will be tying the knot for the second time.

His previous marriage to Autumn Kelly lasted from 2008 to 2021, producing two daughters: Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14.

Ms Sperling, 45, was formerly married to fitness instructor Antonio St. John Sperling, and the couple have a 13-year-old daughter named Georgina.

Despite the understated nature of the ceremony, considerable attention has turned to what the bride might wear, particularly regarding jewellery from the royal collection.

The Princess Royal possesses several tiaras that could potentially be lent to her future daughter-in-law, sparking considerable speculation among royal watchers.

Among these is the Festoon Diamond Tiara, a piece with particular sentimental value to Princess Anne.

Unlike many royal jewels inherited through generations, this tiara was presented to her personally by the World Wide Shipping Group of Hong Kong in 1973 during a ship christening ceremony.

The 75-year-old princess has worn the piece on numerous occasions since, including her engagement photographs with Mark Phillips, Peter's father.

She frequently pairs it with a festoon necklace given to her by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip on her 18th birthday.

However, this tiara appears an unlikely choice for Ms Sperling, as it was previously worn by Ms Kelly at her 2008 wedding to Mr Phillips.

Zara Tindall

Another contender from Princess Anne's collection is the Meander Tiara, a piece with Greek royal provenance.

Originally belonging to Prince Philip's mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, it was given to the then-Princess Elizabeth for her 1947 wedding.

The future Queen never wore it publicly, instead passing it to her daughter on Anne's 18th birthday in 1968.

This tiara holds particular family significance, having been loaned to Zara Tindall for her July 2011 marriage to Mike Tindall.

The Pineflower Aquamarine Tiara presents a third option. King George VI originally gave it to the Queen Mother as an anniversary gift, who subsequently presented it to Anne for her 1973 wedding.

Though modified over the years and worn at state dinners, no royal bride has yet walked down the aisle in it.

Alternatively, Ms Sperling may opt against wearing a tiara altogether, following Queen Camilla's precedent from her 2005 civil ceremony to the future King.

In addition, Princess Anne did not wear a tiara at her own second wedding in 1992 to Timothy Laurence.
