The Italian beat Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in Turin on Sunday night

Jannik Sinner moved quickly to shut down swirling engagement rumours with girlfriend Laila Hasanovic after clinching another major victory, insisting he had “no hand” in the mysterious ring she flashed on social media over the weekend.

Speculation erupted among fans after Hasanovic, who was in Sinner’s player box throughout the ATP Tour Finals in Turin, posted a photo of a ring that many interpreted as a hint of a proposal.

But Sinner poured cold water on the talk within minutes of defending his title in front of ecstatic home supporters.

Asked whether the ring meant an engagement was on the cards, Sinner replied firmly: “The ring Laila showed on social media? Did I have a hand in it? No, no.”

The world No 2 had just wrapped up a commanding 7-6 7-5 win over long-time rival Carlos Alcaraz, the latest chapter in the fierce Sinner–Alcaraz saga that has dominated men’s tennis throughout 2025.

It was their sixth meeting of the year and only Sinner’s second win over the Spaniard this season, but it came in front of a roaring Italian crowd and added another major trophy to the 24-year-old’s growing collection.

“It was an incredible season,” Sinner said. “To finish it this way, before my Italian fans, is very special for me.”

Sinner and Hasanovic, a Danish model previously linked with Mick Schumacher, went public with their relationship earlier this year.

The ATP star made a beeline for her after sealing the title, celebrating with his supporters before briefly acknowledging the speculation that had rippled online.

Alcaraz had already secured the year-end world No 1 ranking before the final but could not halt Sinner’s momentum.

The Spaniard now leads their head-to-head 10–6, though their battles have become the defining rivalry of the sport.

The pair have contested the last three Grand Slam finals in a remarkable tug-of-war for supremacy.

Alcaraz claimed the French Open in a fifth-set tiebreak, Sinner responded by lifting the Wimbledon trophy, and Alcaraz struck again at the US Open.

Even so, Sinner has achieved his own milestone year, having also lifted the Australian Open title by beating Alexander Zverev in January.

Speaking during the trophy ceremony, Alcaraz said: “I hope you are going to be ready for next year because I will be ready to hopefully play more finals against you.”

Sinner replied that he hoped the pair would continue to produce “great, great battles”.

The final itself was tight, with Alcaraz forcing Sinner to save a set point at 5–6 in the opener.

The Italian survived with a blistering second serve that the Spaniard could not return, then seized control in the tiebreak with a brilliant chase-down of a drop shot that set up an overhead winner.

“He came up with a second serve around 185 to 190 kilometres per hour that surprised me,” Alcaraz admitted.

Sinner raised the crowd again in the second set after levelling from an early break, cupping his hand to his ear as fans responded with their trademark chant of “Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole, Sinner, Sinner”.

He closed out the match after Alcaraz pushed a backhand wide, collapsing on his back in relief.

“It was a huge emotion,” he said, referencing a turbulent year that included a three-month ban earlier in the season after resolving a doping case.

The victory extended Sinner’s winning run at the season finale to ten straight matches and ensured he remains unbeaten in sets there since 2023. The Italian has also stretched his indoor hard court streak to thirty-one consecutive victories.
