Fresh from securing his sixth major championship at Flushing Meadows on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of Spain's Davis Cup qualifying match against Denmark scheduled for this weekend in Marbella.
The 22-year-old world No 1 was anticipated to lead his nation's campaign but has opted to step aside from the competition.
Alcaraz's recent weeks have been particularly gruelling, with back-to-back tournament victories taking their toll.
"I feel very bad, but I'm on a very demanding tour, both mentally and physically, with a lot of matches, and I don't have time to get home and prepare in the best way possible for the Davis Cup," Alcaraz explained

The Spanish star emphasised that competing would be "too selfish" given his current state of exhaustion.
The Spaniard claimed the Cincinnati Open title before immediately travelling to New York, where he also participated in the reformed mixed doubles event just one day after his Cincinnati triumph.
His US Open campaign saw him win seven consecutive matches whilst dropping only a single set and suffering just three service breaks en route to the championship.

Following his victory on Sunday, Monday brought additional obligations as Alcaraz joined women's champion Aryna Sabalenka for promotional duties.
This relentless schedule of competition and media commitments has left the young champion physically and mentally drained.
Spain's second-ranked player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has also withdrawn from the tie, with both players being substituted by Jaume Munar, Roberto Carballes Baena and Pablo Carreno Busta.

| GETTYAlcaraz expressed his belief that his teammates were more deserving of the chance to compete.
"I think that would be too selfish, and other players can do better than me," he stated.
The world number one acknowledged his need for recuperation, adding: "I need rest to face the rest of the season and, above all, to be mentally calm to assimilate everything I've achieved on this tour."

Despite his withdrawal from Davis Cup duties, Alcaraz remains committed to several upcoming tournaments.
The Spaniard will participate in the Laver Cup in San Francisco at the end of next week, the exhibition event co-founded by Roger Federer that follows a Ryder Cup format.
His Asian swing begins with a maiden appearance at the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo, followed by the Shanghai Masters 1000 event.

Looking ahead to 2026, Alcaraz has identified Melbourne as his primary target.
"Australia is always the main goal before starting the year. Therefore, I train hard and do preseason to try to start the year in the best possible way," he revealed.
Victory at the Australian Open would complete his career Grand Slam collection.
