The Ecuador international has turned down a move to Liverpool

Chelsea are set to break the British transfer record after agreeing a deal worth up to £115million with Brighton for Moises Caicedo.

The midfielder is set to sign an eight-year contract with an option of a further year after a deal was finally agreed between the two sides.

Brighton will receive £100m up front with a further £15m in add-ons as the long-running transfer saga appears finally to be coming to an end.

The Seagulls will also retain a percentage of any future sell-on fee as Caicedo becomes the most expensive transfer in British football.

Last Thursday, Liverpool made a substantial offer of £111 million for Caicedo, which Brighton accepted.

However, despite their efforts, the Reds failed to persuade the player to join their ranks at Anfield.

Caicedo instead preferred a move to Stamford Bridge over Merseyside although Chelsea had initially shown reluctance to meet Brighton's valuation for the player.

Nevertheless, Todd Boehly's team now appear eager to finalise the transfer.

This move would see Chelsea set a new British transfer record for the second time in seven months, following their £106.8m deal for Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

Caicedo meanwhile is poised to undergo a medical examination later today and sign a deal that would likely make him the most expensive player ever acquired by an English club.

Chelsea's pursuit of the 21-year-old started in January, although they hesitated to meet Brighton's valuation in a transfer saga that’s continued until this summer window during which Caicedo expressed his desire to leave Brighton.

The sudden interest from Liverpool in the past few days, coupled with Brighton's acceptance of their bid, intensified Chelsea's need to act swiftly.

The Stamford Bridge hierarchy, however, believes that the agreed-upon deal accurately reflects Caicedo's value- a player Brighton acquired for just over £4million.
