Fulham manager Marco Silva is in the running for the North London job

Tottenham have Marco Silva at the top of their list to replace Ange Postecoglou if they fail to win the Europa League, it has been claimed.

Spurs made the final of the competition last night after beating Bodo/Glimt 2-0 in Norway.

It means they'll now lock horns with Manchester United on May 21 with glory on the line, as they seek a first trophy since the days of Juande Ramos back in 2008.

Now, however, Gianluca Di Marzio claims Spurs have Fulham manager Marco Silva as ‘first on the list’ if they decide to hire a new boss.

Spurs have had a difficult time in the Premier League under Postecoglou, sitting 16th in the table with 38 points from 35 games.
Fulham are currently 11th in the table, two points behind the eighth-placed AFC Bournemouth.

All hope of a trophy is not lost for Spurs, however, after they saw out their European tie against Bodo/Glimt.

The two finalists have had similar seasons, with both getting to the final but only sitting 15th and 16th in the Premier League.

The two clubs will be looking to win in order to end the season on a high and take home the trophy.

Di Marzio indicates it may be the only way for Postecoglou to keep his role at Tottenham.

If he fails to do so, then the sacking is more than likely, and the Fulham coach is their main target.

Sliva isn’t the only one on their list, as Marseille’s Roberto De Zerbi and AFC Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola are also on their radar to join the struggling team.

They reportedly believe there’s a better chance of bringing in Silva, compared to the other candidates.

Postecoglou fought back after the Spurs' win.

"It's going to upset a lot of people isn't it,” he said in his press conference. “The debate's now raging, the latest one is that neither of us will be able to get a trophy if we win, they're just going to take a team photo because we're not worthy.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

"I mean, who cares if we're struggling in the league? Why is that important? If it's so easy to get to a final, then why doesn't everyone who finishes in the top three do it? It's a separate thing. It's got nothing to do with league form.

"We understand our league form hasn't been great. We understand the struggles we've had. A lot of them are because of the situation we've been in. But how that diminishes the achievement of getting to a final. Like I said, this club and others have finished in first, second or third in the Premier League and haven't made finals.”

The Aussie asked: “Why should that be diminished? I couldn't care less who's struggling and who's not. I think both us and Manchester United have earned the right to be there.

"I think we've probably beaten teams who will be in the Champions League next year, on our road to getting there. So looking forward to it, should be a great game.

"What do I care what Man United think? Why is that relevant to me? You [media] know better than me, you follow this club more than I have. What do you think a trophy would do for this club?

"People are fearing that it might actually happen. They're trying to tear it down and diminish it and try to compare us to Man United."

While there is nothing more for either side to gain in the Premier League, their sights will now be firmly set on the Europa League final, taking place on May 21 at San Mames, Bilbao, with kick-off at 8pm.
