The club has announced that Ryan Mason will leave to join Championship West Bromwich Albion

Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed that Ryan Mason will leave the club to become West Brom's new manager on a three-year contract.

The 33-year-old former Tottenham assistant coach has ended the Baggies' six-week search for Tony Mowbray's replacement, after they sacked him last month.

Mason informed Spurs on Sunday that he would not renew his contract when it expires at the end of June.

This decision gave West Brom the green light to appoint him as their new boss on Monday.

The former midfielder had been the club's top target since Mowbray was sacked.

Mason arrives at The Hawthorns from Tottenham, where he served as Ange Postecoglou's assistant coach. He joined Spurs' coaching team in April 2018, initially playing a key role in the club's academy.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said on the departure: "Ryan has been an integral part of Tottenham Hotspur for a number of years, both as a player and a coach.

“I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Ryan for all his dedication and hard work over the years, and we wish him every success for the future."

The highly-rated coach has twice served as interim first-team manager at Tottenham.

He first took charge following Jose Mourinho's sacking in 2021, leading the club to a Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Mason became acting head coach for a second time following Antonio Conte's departure in 2023. He has been part of Tottenham's senior set-up ever since his initial coaching appointment.

The 33-year-old's playing career was cut short in 2018 at the age of 26 after fracturing his skull whilst playing for Hull against Chelsea a year earlier.

He had progressed through Tottenham's academy system and went on to make 70 appearances for his boyhood club.

Following his enforced retirement, Mason transitioned into coaching at Tottenham's academy. The former midfielder had held talks with Belgian club Anderlecht in October before a mutual decision was made to remain at Spurs.

Tottenham academy coach Stuart Lewis could join Mason at West Brom, according to BBC Sport.

The Baggies had been searching for a new manager for six weeks before securing Mason's appointment.

His decision to inform Tottenham on Sunday that he would not renew his expiring contract cleared the path for West Brom to complete the deal, and the club moved quickly to appoint Mason on Monday once they received confirmation of his availability.

Mason will be hoping to return West Brom to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2018.
