Tim Sherwood has sparked fury online

Football fans have called on Sky Sports to drop Tim Sherwood from their punditry line-up following his comments on Benjamin Sesko.

Sesko scored twice on Wednesday night as Manchester United drew 2-2 with Burnley at Turf Moor, with the fixture taking place just days after Ruben Amorim's dismissal from Old Trafford.

It was a much-needed brace from the Slovenia international, who has often struggled since his move from RB Leipzig back in the summer.

Yet while the 22-year-old delivered the goods, Sherwood said after the game that Sesko lacked the quality required to lead the line for the Red Devils.

Having criticised the striker before the game, Sherwood doubled down on Sky and said: "I stand by what I said. He's not good enough to play for Man United.

"He's turned up for one game against Burnley who are going to get relegated.

"But fair play to him, hopefully he gets some confidence and we start seeing something different from him."

Yet many supporters were unimpressed with Sherwood's comments, with a number of fans taking to social media to call for the former Tottenham boss to be axed by the broadcaster.

One wrote: "I'm deadly serious, if you step onto Sky Sports and say the words Benjamin Sesko should never wear a United jersey again, you should have whatever accreditation that makes you eligible to be a pundit whipped off you and incinerated. Tim Sherwood of all people."

A second fumed: "Said he 'shouldn't wear the shirt' Sesko then scores twice. And Tim Sherwood doubles down. That's a disgrace. Be a man and say you got it wrong."

Another wrote: "Tim Sherwood... said at halftime on [Sky Sports] that Benjamin Sesko shouldn't wear a [United] shirt again. After Sesko scored a brace, instead of praising him, he decides to attack him again after the game and says he's not good enough. Absolute disgrace of a pundit."

And a fourth raged: "I have a feeling [Sky Sports] will have a shake up soon.. if they have any sense they will. The Neville / Carragher pairing has worn thin and become more of a joke act.

"The side acts like Charlie Austin and Tim Sherwood are just c**p. There are literally tons of credible intelligent ex-managers and ex-players who would bring much greater insights and analysis to the table that fans would appreciate."

Sesko, meanwhile, admitted after the game he was relieved at ending his nine-game run without a goal.

The forward said: "It helps me for my confidence. It's been tough, but now I finally did it and I'm happy I could help the team.

"This is the most important for me and now it's just up to me and up to us to keep going like that."

United interim coach Darren Fletcher added: "He needed it massively.

"Obviously I'd spoke to him before the game and tried to reiterate what a good player he is and how much I've watched him over the years.

"We got the service into the box for him. He made great movement, great runs, and he took his two goals fantastically."

Sesko will be hoping to find the net again when United lock horns with Brighton in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday (4.30pm).
