The pundit has opened up Antoine Semenyo, with the Bournemouth star expected to leave the club

Jamie Redknapp has suggested Liverpool may yet enter the race for Antoine Semenyo, despite Manchester City having activated the Bournemouth forward's £65million release clause.

The former Liverpool midfielder, speaking as a Sky Sports pundit, indicated the Ghana international's move to the Etihad might not be as certain as widely believed.

"I'm not so sure. I've heard there might be a little bit of a twist. I think Liverpool could still be in the equation," Redknapp told Sky Sports.

He added: "All I'm saying is, I've heard tonight that it might not be the forgone conclusion that he's going to be having a medical at Man City. There might still be a little twist and I hope so."

The 26-year-old's potential departure comes after he netted a crucial stoppage-time goal to secure Bournemouth's thrilling 3-2 triumph over Tottenham.

That late strike appears destined to be Semenyo's farewell contribution in a Cherries shirt, with Iraola acknowledging his star player is on the verge of leaving the Vitality Stadium.

When Sky Sports asked whether that goal marked Semenyo's final appearance for Bournemouth, the Spanish manager responded: "It looks like it yes.

"Obviously, you have to do the medical and formalities but, I'm afraid to say because I don't want to lose him."

Iraola confirmed: "I think it's going to be his last moments with us."

The Bournemouth boss heaped praise on the departing forward, placing him among the finest talents he has worked with throughout his managerial career.

"He's a top professional. We're not [just] losing an incredible player but one of the best I've coached, he's ready for anything," Iraola stated.

Speaking to the Daily Mail following the match, the manager expressed genuine happiness for Semenyo while acknowledging the significant void his exit will create.

"I am very happy for him personally because he deserves it. A moment he will never forget," Iraola said.

"But it's true a big miss, a player you cannot replace. He is an incredible player."

Redknapp linked Liverpool's potential interest to uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah's long-term future at Anfield, questioning why the club had not pursued Semenyo more aggressively.

"If you look at that position, with Mohamed Salah and how long he's going to be at the club for, we don't quite know," the pundit explained.

"If you've got a player of that quality and he shows he's a match-winner, he turns up in the big moments. Why wouldn't you be in for him?"

Despite the speculation, Iraola has confirmed that City had triggered the release clause and Semenyo simply needed to complete formalities.

The manager added that the winger had consistently improved each season and was ready to step up once more.

Bournemouth's win means they have 26 points from their opening 21 games.

Pressure is mounting on Tottenham once again, however, with Thomas Frank's side 14th in the table.

Frank insists he can turn things around but, for the second season in a row, Tottenham face the prospect of a dire league finish.
