Ange Postecoglou’s wait for a first win as Nottingham Forest manager continues after his side lost 1-0 to newly promoted Sunderland.

A 38th-minute goal from Omar Alderete was enough to secure the points as Sunderland’s great start to the season continues.

Forest piled on the pressure in the second half but were unable to find a way to break down the defence.

But what are the three biggest things we learnt from tonight’s game? GB News is here to reveal all.

CREATIVITY LACKING FOR FOREST

Postecoglou has made it very clear he wants to play attractive football, both in his time at Tottenham and now with Forest, but his system appears to lack the creativity to score the goals he needs to win games.

One of the characteristics of the Australians’ style of play was the way his teams would move the ball, but Forest does not seem to have that.

For the first hour of the match-up, Forest looked lethargic and were lucky to only be down by one goal.

The goal conceded was entirely of their own making, the poor defence from the Forest players allowed Alderete to lot the header home and add another loss to the tally for this season.

With the ruthless nature of the Premier League in recent years, Forest’s results will be closely watched to see if the Australian will suffer the same fate as he did at Spurs.

FINAL THIRD NEEDS WORK

Chris Wood

Both teams struggled in the final third this evening. A number of notable chances should have been put in the back of the net, Chris Wood missing a sitter to level the game in the final 10 minutes has to be the worst offender of the lot.

Forest fans may be forced to wonder why the change was made to oust Nuno Espirito Santo, who had brought the team into the European places, for a style of football that, while it did win Spurs the Europa League last season, also left their league form in tatters.

Both teams were able to pin the other deep inside their own half, but too many chances went amiss.

Postecoglou and Régis Le Bris will have their work cut out as the season progresses to take those chances that appear in the final third.

SUNDERLAND LOOK SET TO CAUSE PROBLEMS

With only one loss in six games, Sunderland currently sit third in the table and have shown so much more than many would have assumed they would a newly promoted side would ever do

Le Bris has done great work with his side, a strong transfer window that saw them recruit in all the key areas they needed to improve on from their Championship season.

While the opening to the season has been easier than other teams' schedules, Sunderland will have to face both Manchester United and Chelsea in October for true Premier League tests for Le Bris’ side.

Omar Alderete

Nottingham Forest will now turn their attention to the Europa League, where they will face Midtjylland on Thursday, while Sunderland will set their sights on the clash with Manchester United as they look to compound Ruben Amorim’s misery as Red Devils’ boss.
