Arne Slot’s side has made a habit of leaving it late to secure points this season, and it almost looked like they had done so again against Crystal Palace when Federico Chiesa scored an 87th-minute equaliser to cancel out Ismaila Sarr's opener.

After the Reds thought they had secured a lucky point, with virtually the last kick of the game, Palace substitute Eddie Nketiah netted a goal in the seventh minute of added time to secure the win for Oliver Glanser’s side, who are now unbeaten in 18 games.

Following the match, Glasner revealed: “We deserved the win. We played an amazing first half and had a deserved lead. To overcome the pressure of Liverpool, they deserved an equaliser but I'm delighted at the reaction of our team.

“Every player is so important, all the subs came on to help us to win the game. I am really proud of the performance.

"We talk about our personality, we always go for the win. Everybody who is close to Crystal Palace got their reward today. The fans will have a great Saturday evening, as will the whole club.

"The players showed so much confidence. We made so many runs, the quality of the passes, runs into the box, it was excellent.”

MANCHESTER CITY BOUNCE BACK

After the losses to Tottenham and Brighton earlier in the season, questions were asked about whether Pep Guardiola’s side would have enough to fight for the title this season, but with a good run of form over recent games and the hammering of Burnley, City are easily back into the title race.

Erling Haaland scored a late brace to compound the misery of Brighton after two own goals from Maxime Esteve, putting the match out of reach for Scott Parker’s side.

The two sides were on par for most of the match as Jaidon Anthony scuffed a shot in to negate the first of the own goals from Esteve. But with 30 minutes to go, City turned it up with a goal from Matheus Nunes, who started the chain reaction with a further three goals to follow.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Defiant comments from Nunes after the game show the spirit City is taking into this season. He said, “We shouldn't concede a goal, that's what we take from this game. It was a difficult game but we controlled it better in the second half. It was a good victory.

"We are still trying to reach the level we used to be with control in every game. We want to win every game but sometimes it isn't easy. We will get there."

REDS PROVE COSTLY FOR THE BLUES

Chelsea

Chelsea were left furious after a second red card in as many weeks

Chelsea were once again hampered by a red card as they lost 3-1 to Burnley following a red card for Trevoh Chalobah.

The Blues had taken the lead in the first half and were looking positive as they worked their way through the Brighton defence. The game turned on its head when Chalobah's desperate challenge on Georginio Rutter saw Maresca’s side go down to 10 men for the second week running.

Substitute Danny Welbeck stuck the dagger into Chelsea’s bad discipline as he scored two late goals to secure the win with a helping goal from Maxim de Cuyper.

Brighton manager, Fabian Hurzeler heaped praise on Welbeck after the game: "I'm very happy for him because he's always there, he's a great leader and today he gets the reward for everything he's doing for us and himself."

Elsewhere around the league, Bournemouth and Leeds drew in a battle for what will likely be survival come the end of the season.

After the game, Daniel Farke admitted: “Of course [disappointed] because we had a really good game with a really good performance against a strong opponent. We deserved to win this game. We had way more expected goals and shots. We had big chances.

"We gave away two set-pieces and they scored both. They didn’t have a chance out of the game. Small details can be punished. It feels a bit heartbreaking but I’m proud of the performance.”

Teams will now prepare for next weekend as the Premier League season enters the colder months.
