The Magpies secured all three points with a dramatic victory at St James' Park

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was delighted after his side came from behind to beat West Ham 4-3 on Saturday.

The Magpies were facing defeat after falling 3-1 down, with Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen all netting after an early penalty from Aleksander Isak.

But Newcastle summoned the spirit of St James' Park to claim all three points in arguably the best match of the season so far.

Isak netted a penalty to give them hope following a foul from Kalvin Phillips on Anthony Gordon.

And Harvey Barnes then netted a sensational brace to give the home side all three points.

It was a monumental win for Newcastle, who have now boosted their hopes of securing European football for next season.

And Howe has emphatically praised his players, insisting the victory speaks volumes about his squad and what they're capable of doing.

"It tells us we have some unbelievable professionals in there and we still have a spirit that we will never give up," he told the BBC.

"It is a game we will never forget, it was a pleasure to be a part of it and I can't praise the players enough."

Newcastle have battled injury issues this season.

And it was a similar story on Saturday, with the likes of Tino Livramento, Jamaal Lascelles, Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron all forced to withdraw.

Howe admits that Newcastle's growing list of injuries is hampering his team.

Gordon's late red card for kicking the ball away doesn't help matters either.

The Newcastle boss added: "It's been the story of our season. Unfortunately, we were getting hit left right and centre today.

"We were 1-0 up and then Jamaal goes off. Miggy goes off, Anthony is sent off, Tino goes off.

"It is a catalogue one after another but the players we brought on made a positive impact and that's the beauty of our squad."

On Barnes, Howe continued: "He is an incredible player. We have missed him this season and he would have given us quality wherever he played.

"He is a goalscorer and they are so valuable and his two finishes today were of the highest quality.

"Of course, the last one was memorable and will always be remembered and what a finish it was. That's the quality he has."

Barnes himself, meanwhile, was delighted after coming off the bench to score twice.

And the England star praised the spirit of Newcastle's group, saying: "With the way the game was going, the second goal there was a bit of controversy, but we have always had that team spirit and today is one of those days we'll remember for a long time.

"It has been a tough season for me and I have missed that feeling so much.

"My playing time has been limited so every time I am on the pitch I went to help the team.

"The atmosphere here is always amazing. Today it is a winner and it is a great feeling."
