The two sides are currently in action in the early Premier League kick off

Newcastle fans have taken to social media to rage after Mohammed Kudus scored a controversial goal for West Ham on Saturday.

The Toon went ahead after just six minutes, with Aleksandr Isak netting a penalty following a foul from Anthony Gordon inside the box.

West Ham levelled through Michail Antonio in the 21st minute.

And they took the lead just before the interval, with Kudus scoring to put the Hammers ahead and sparking wild celebrations among the away fans.

However, Kudus' goal was a controversial one.

West Ham were given a free kick for a foul by Fabian Schar, with the 32-year-old caught by Kudus' arm in the process.

Newcastle felt their defender needed treatment but West Ham played the consequent free kick quickly, with Kudus then converting after Lucas Paqueta had found Jarrod Bowen.

Eddie Howe's players were visibly annoyed on the pitch, with stars protesting the decision.

But Kudus' goal was given, despite their complaints.

And Newcastle fans on social media have raged, with many furious with the decision to give the goal in such an important fixture.

"Shouldn't count?? WTF," fumed one user.

A second vented their fury by saying: "Schar is down with a head injury????? AND HE PLAYS ON???? CORRUPTION YET AGAIN."

A third said: "So we don’t care about head injuries anymore then?"

A fourth raged: "Blantant cheating. The game has to be stopped for a head injury."

"The goal should of been disallowed..player down holding his head," were the words of a fifth user.

And a sixth said: "Goal should be disallowed surely? Regardless of the West Ham bias."

Newcastle now have work to do if they're to turn the match around and continue their hunt for European football next season.

Howe's side have been inconsistent in recent weeks, with the Tyneside giants struggling in matches against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.

And defeat would see them fall seven points behind today's opponents, with West Ham currently seventh in the league table.

Chris Sutton, meanwhile, has hailed Kudus for his controversial goal.

"It was a foul on Mohammed Kudus, Fabian Schar took him out when he received the ball from the throw in," he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"A quickly taken free kick, Jarrod Bowen tried to cut inside on his left foot, the ball falls to Kudus who fires the ball into the top corner.

"West Ham take the lead, brilliant finish!"

And former Republic of Ireland star Andy Reid believes Newcastle players should have reacted quicker to Kudus' strike.

"The Newcastle defenders should have reacted quicker, stand in front of the ball, stop it happening," he said.

"You're told that from Under 9's football, if someone looks like they might take a quick free kick, go and stand over the ball. It is worth a booking to stop a goal.

"Poor play from Newcastle, but very clever play from West Ham."
