The striker will be hoping to continue his form into the World Cup this summer

Bayern Munich secured their place in the Champions League semi-finals with a breathtaking 4-3 triumph over Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena, winning 6-4 on aggregate in what proved to be an instant classic.

England captain Harry Kane etched his name further into the record books by netting his 50th goal of the campaign in the 38th minute, converting clinically after Dayot Upamecano threaded a pass into his path.

The striker becomes the first Englishman to score 50 goals in a single season in 95 years.

The 32-year-old found space between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Eder Militao before firing into the bottom corner, leaving goalkeeper Andriy Lunin with no chance.

Kane's milestone strike came in just his 42nd appearance of the season, demonstrating remarkable efficiency in front of goal.

The goal against Los Blancos saw Kane become the first footballer in history to register a goal or assist in five successive Champions League matches against the Spanish giants.

His remarkable run against Real stretches back to his Tottenham days, when he set up Christian Eriksen during Spurs' 3-1 Wembley victory in 2017.

Since his 2023 move to Bavaria, Kane has consistently troubled Madrid, scoring in both legs of last season's semi-final defeat before finding the net in both quarter-final encounters this term.

By scoring in his fifth consecutive Champions League fixture, the England skipper also matched Steven Gerrard's record for the longest scoring streak by an English player in the competition, set during Liverpool's 2007/08 campaign.

The match erupted into chaos from the very first whistle when Manuel Neuer's dreadful clearance gifted Arda Guler an open goal after just 35 seconds.

Aleksandar Pavlovic headed Bayern level from a corner that Lunin failed to claim, before Guler curled a magnificent free-kick into the top corner for his second.

Kylian Mbappe restored parity on aggregate before half-time with his 40th goal of the season.

But the decisive moment arrived in the 86th minute when Eduardo Camavinga received a second yellow card for fouling Kane.

Luis Diaz capitalised within two minutes, his deflected strike putting Bayern ahead before Michael Olise sealed victory with a stunning curling effort into the top corner in stoppage time.

Kane's extraordinary campaign has seen him shatter multiple records beyond his half-century of goals for Bayern.

In February, the striker reached 500 career goals in fewer matches than Cristiano Ronaldo did.

His double against Atalanta in March brought up 50 Champions League goals in just 66 appearances.

This made him the third-fastest player to reach that landmark behind only Erling Haaland and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi required more games to hit that European milestone.

With 31 Bundesliga goals from his current tally, Kane now has Robert Lewandowski's single-season record of 41 league strikes in his sights, although he requires 10 goals from his remaining five matches.

Bayern will face holders Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
