Carrick is anticipated to be confirmed as the club's new boss before United's final home game of the season

Manchester United have reached an agreement to appoint Michael Carrick as the club's manager.

The formal process of exchanging contracts has begun, with an announcement from United anticipated in the next 48 hours.

Carrick is expected to sign an initial two-year deal with the option of an extra 12 months.

It is currently unclear whether the fine details will be completed before United face Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Carrick has overseen an impressive turnaround since taking charge in January, guiding United back into the UEFA Champions League.

The 44-year-old was asked about his future during Friday's press conference and suggested an announcement is close.

"The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon, we knew that," Carrick said with a smile.

"There's two games to go, and apart from that there's not much else to say. The situation is pretty clear for us all."
