Manchester United went a goal down through a Luke Shaw own goal in the Europa League final

Manchester United fans appear to have lost patience with Andre Onana and Luke Shaw after a torrid goal conceded in the Europa League final against Tottenham.

A cagey opening start to the match looked like it would see both sides go into the half-time break with the scores locked at 0-0.

But a defensive horrorshow saw Tottenham take the lead through an own goal from Shaw when Pape Matar Sarr's cross caused chaos in the United box.

Despite having three defenders in close contact, Brennan Johnson managed to get in between Patrick Dorgu, Harry Maguire and Shaw.

Just the slightest bit of movement from the Wales international bamboozled Onana, who refused to come off his line as Sarr's cross dipped in front of him.

Johnson failed to make real contact with the ball, with it rebounding off him onto Shaw's arm and past Onana with Spurs fans being sent into a frenzy as it trickled over the line.

United fans, on the other hand, have been left furious with the defensive mishap between Onana and Shaw - which should never have seen the ball end up in the net.

One fan wrote on X: "Getting rid of De Gea for Onana was the biggest mistake we ever did as a club. We can't keep on pretending."

Another said: "I've seen goldfish dive faster. The liability that keeps on costing."

And a third posted on social media: "Andre Onana is so so poor."

Shaw did not escape criticism, either, with one fan saying: "Luke Shaw is 100% the worst signing in Uniteds history. Fooled a fanbase for a decade plus."

Another wrote: "Luke Shaw starting is a puzzler as well. Been s**t ever since he came back and absolutely dreadful tonight."

While this fan said: "Luke Shaw should honestly leave before the next season."

Both United and Tottenham are desperate for silverware this season after a shocking campaign in the Premier League.

The two clubs both sit outside the relegation zone with neither team breaching the 40-point mark.

However, winning the Europa League does not just give one club silverware but also a pathway to the Champions League.
