The Serb says he has 'respect' his former coach

Novak Djokovic has revealed he “couldn’t get more” out of his partnership with former coach Andy Murray.

The decision in November shocked the tennis world when long-time pals Djokovic and Murray announced they would be working together, with Murray taking on a coaching role for the Serb.

Since the announcement, Djokovic has seen his ATP ranking drop down to sixth, and has lost three consecutive matches on two occasions.

During that time, however, Djokovic did reach the semi-final of the Australian Open, where the 37-year-old was forced to retire against German Alexander Zverev, and lost the Miami Masters final to Jakub Mensik.

However, Murray has overseen the Serb bow out in the first match in five separate tournaments.

With Djokovic currently preparing for the Geneva Open this week, before the French Open, he admitted they could not get more out of the partnership.

Djokovic said: “We felt like we couldn't get more out of that partnership on the court, and that's all there is to it.

“My respect towards Andy remains the same, even more actually, I got to know him as a person.

“I think he has a brilliant tennis IQ, he has a very rare mind of a champion that obviously has achieved what he has achieved, and he sees the game incredibly well.”

Fans had originally hoped the partnership would continue through the French Open next week and Wimbledon, which commences next month.

However, the pair announced the decision to split, which is believed to be mutual, via social media.

“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun & support over the last six months on & off the court,” Djokovic wrote.

“I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together.”

On Tuesday, Djokovic unveiled his new coaching team ahead of the Geneva Open, with Dusan Vemic and Boris Bosnjakovic stepping in to fill the void left by Murray.

Vemic is no stranger to Djokovic's team, having previously worked with the Serbian star from 2011-2013 and again in 2016.

Bosnjakovic has already been serving as part of Djokovic's team in the capacity of an assistant coach and analyst.

The pair will now share the coaching responsibilities as Djokovic navigates the remainder of the clay-court season.

The Geneva Open will serve as Djokovic's final preparation before Roland Garros, with the Serbian set to face Marton Fucsovics in the second round on Wednesday.

When speaking on the new arrangement, Djokovic said: "I don't have any rush to choose where to have someone or not.

"I don't know at this moment. I'm fine with these guys. I'm happy with the way it is, and we'll see after Paris."

Djokovic’s comments suggest the new arrangement could be temporary, as he gears up his attempts to win a 25th Grand Slam title.
