Liverpool's four options to replace Arne Slot as sack pressure rises after woeful Nottingham Forest defeat

On Saturday, Liverpool produced another shambolic showing with Nottingham Forest running riot at Anfield. Murillo put the visitors ahead in the 33rd minute, with Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White then netting in the second half to secure all three points.

Slot has plenty of credit in the bank, still. Liverpool are determined to be patient, with the board fully aware that his newest recruits still need time to gel.

Yet it can't now be denied that Liverpool are regressing with each and every passing match. Wirtz and Isak have been poor, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk look like shadows of their usual selves and a run of eight losses from their last 11 games has led to a big, grey cloud hanging over the club.

No manager is every truly safe. If the crisis continues, Slot's head will roll.

Jurgen Klopp

Let's start with the obvious.

Jurgen Klopp walked away from Liverpool back in 2023 because he was exhausted and felt he'd taken the club as far as he could, following Premier League and Champions League triumphs in 2020 and 2019 respectively.

The German has been enjoying his spell away from the dugout, working at Red Bull, where he's Global Head of Soccer. He's been able to savour the simple things in life, too, such as going to the cinema now that the spotlight is no longer on him.

But Klopp recently said that Liverpool are the only club he'd manage in England and the door, it seems, remains slightly ajar.

One grievance he had during his time at Anfield was that the club didn't spend enough money in the transfer market. Imagine, then, how he'd feel about managing superstars such as Wirtz and Isak - with the potential to add even more.

A return would undeniably thrill Liverpool fans. The question is, would he want to risk tarnishing his legacy? Going back seldom works out.

Oliver Glasner

One team who seem to have cracked the Liverpool code is Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have beaten the Reds in the Premier League and Carabao Cup this term, while also securing the Community Shield against the same opponents back in August.

And Oliver Glasner, therefore, would undeniably be discussed if the Reds were forced to do the unthinkable.

Palace are soaring this term.

Having won both the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2025, they're dreaming of playing in the Champions League next season - with Saturday's 2-0 victory over Wolves seeing them rise to fifth in the standings.

Glasner's stock has never been higher and he'd certainly be worthy of consideration.

Andoni Iraola

Another manager excelling in the Premier League this season is Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola.

Many expected the Cherries to struggle after losing virtually the whole of their first-choice defence last season.

Instead, Bournemouth continue to punch well above their weight - with Iraola's entertaining style of play winning plaudits.

He's been linked with Manchester United but, with the Red Devils enjoying a resurgence under Ruben Amorim, it's Liverpool who now appear likelier to be his next destination.
