Jamie Carragher has urged Ruben Amorim to bring an end to his own misery and Manchester United's by quitting after yet another defeat for the Portuguese manager.
It has been a horrible start to the season for the Red Devils, having won only two games. They sit 14th in the table, with a relegation battle looking more likely than European football for the club.
Amorim’s Premier League record with the club is a historic low, having won just 33 points from 34 games and having lost 17. Despite a £250million spend in the transfer window, the team looks just as bad as it did in its 15th-place finish last season.
Former Liverpool legend Carragher believes it is time for him to leave of his own accord. He said: “I think he's still in a job because the powers that be at Man United have made that many mistakes on and off the pitch that they almost don't want to admit right now that they've made another.

“This has been a disaster for Man United and Ruben Amorim. What he did at Sporting Lisbon was fantastic and he looked like the next big thing as a manager.
"But bringing a manager with a system like his never suited the traditions of Man United and the quicker the club make a decision on the manager, I think it's better for everybody because it has been a disaster for the club but also the manager.
"We're only waiting for the inevitable, unfortunately, you don't want to see people lose their jobs but this has to end as quickly as possible.”
Amorim is believed to have been offered the chance to resign last season; however, this has not been confirmed.
Carragher is not the only former player to take aim at the United boss as Wayne Rooney had his own say.
On his podcast, he said: “I honestly hope he can turn it round and he does. But if you're saying to me, 'do you believe he will?', then, after everything I've seen, honestly, I've got no faith in it.

"I don't see players fighting, I don't see character, I don't see a desire to win, I don't see ability, I don't see match winners, nothing that gets me off my feet.
"I'm seeing players, they don't deserve to wear the shirt, and it hurts. When you have played for the club and care about it, this is not acceptable what is going on.”
In his time with the Red Devils, Rooney played 559 games and has the club record for goals with 253.

He continued: "The soul has gone from the club. It needs a new engine, a new lease of life. It needs something to kickstart that football club.
"We're seeing staff members getting sacked after 20, 30 years who are very important people to that football club."

| PADespite the debate around his position, Amorim appears confident in his role.
After the Brentford loss at the weekend, he said: "I am always comfortable with the job. I am not concerned, it is not my decision."
Manchester United face Sunderland this weekend in the Premier League, and the game has the feeling of a do-or-die nature for the fans at Old Trafford as they look to salvage a season that already looks lost.
