The 40-year-old has announced a personal loss

Lewis Hamilton has shared the devastating news that his beloved bulldog Roscoe has died, following several days on life support.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion revealed in an emotional Instagram post that his companion passed away in his arms on Sunday evening, September 28.

Hamilton described Roscoe as his “true friend” who never stopped fighting until the very end.

Roscoe, a British bulldog, had become almost as famous as his owner within the world of Formula 1.

The dog frequently joined Hamilton in the paddock, was often photographed on the grid and in team garages, and even built a loyal following of his own on social media.

In his post, Hamilton opened up about the heartbreaking decision to let Roscoe go after four days on life support.

“After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe.

“He never stopped fighting, right until the very end.

“I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend.

“Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.”

Hamilton also reflected on the pain of the loss, noting that although he had previously lost his other bulldog, Coco, in 2020, he had never before faced the experience of putting a pet to sleep.

“Although I lost Coco, I have never been faced with putting a dog to sleep before, though I know my mum and many close friends have.

“It is one of the most painful experiences, and I feel a deep connection to everyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved pet.”

The 39-year-old went on to thank fans for the affection they had shown Roscoe over the years: “Thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown Roscoe.

“It has been so special to witness and feel.”
