Jamie Carragher has reacted on social media to the devastating news of Diogo Jota's death at the age of 28.
The Portugal international passed away after a car crash in Spain near Palacios de Sanabria in the province of Zamora. He was travelling with his brother, Andre Silva, who also died in the accident.
Liverpool have since confirmed Jota's death in a statement. The Reds said: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
"The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.

"Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.
"We will continue to provide them with our full support."
Carragher has now paid tribute on social media.
"Devastating news about Diogo Jota & his brother Andre this morning," he said on X.
"Thoughts are with everyone of their family & friends, especially his wife Rute & their three lovely kids."
Other figures and organisations have also paid tribute to Jota, whose tragic death comes just two weeks after he'd married the mother of his three children, Rute Cardoso.
The Portuguese Football Federation said: "The Portuguese Football Federation and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated by the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, this morning, in Spain.
"Much more than an outstanding player, with nearly 50 caps for the National A Team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all colleagues and opponents, someone with a contagious joy and a reference in his own community.

"The Portuguese Football Federation expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and Andre Silva, as well as to Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where the players respectively played.
"The Portuguese Football Federation has already requested UEFA to hold a minute of silence, this Thursday, before our National Team’s match against Spain in the Women’s European Championship.
"We have lost two champions. The passing of Diogo and André Silva represents irreparable losses for Portuguese Football, and we will do everything to honor their legacy daily."
And Porto, who once had both Jota and Andre on their books, stated: "FC Porto is in mourning.

Jota joined Liverpool back in the summer transfer window of 2020 after shining at Wolves.

He spent five years with the Reds, winning prestigious trophies such as the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Jota netted 65 times in 182 games for the club while scoring 133 goals from 395 career appearances.
He also scored 14 goals for Portugal in 49 games, having made his debut for the national side in 2019.
