The forward was clearly pained by the defeat at the Bernabeu

When Harry Kane joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham back in the summer, the 30-year-old saw himself winning the biggest and best trophies in the land.

The DBF-Pokal was a formality, the Bundesliga title even more so.

Yet with Real Madrid ruthlessly ending Bayern's Champions League dream on Wednesday night, his hopes of silverware in his maiden season at the Allianz Arena are now over.

Kane, of course, has done his part. A remarkable 44 goals across all competitions is proof of that, with the England international becoming Thomas Tuchel's talisman during his time in Bavaria so far.

Ultimately, however, they'll all count for nothing.

It wasn't meant to be like this. Bayern had dominated German football prior to Kane's arrival and there's a sense they will again, once they finally settle on a sufficient replacement for Tuchel.

But the 30-year-old was unable to hide his pain at full time, with the striker looking utterly crestfallen.

Bayern had been on course to make the Champions League final, with a goal from Alphonso Davies in the 69th minute putting them 3-2 up on aggregate.

Yet Real have this knack for winning, something they've made a habit throughout their envious history.

A late brace from Joselu broke Bayern hearts, with Real now set to face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley in the final of the prestigious competition next month.

And, for Kane in particular, this defeat will be a bitter pill to swallow.

When he was withdrawn in the 85th minute, after apparently suffering from a back problem, Bayern were in cruise control.

However, without their main man on the pitch, Real summoned courage and fight to blitz Bayern and proceed at their rivals' expense.

Kane, after the game, seemed to be a man in agony.

He stood alongside Matthijs de Lift to clap the Bayern fans with a devastated look on his face.

Other images show him with his hands on his face, clearly stunned by what has unfolded.

And one snap shows Kane congratulating Jude Bellingham while looking as though he'd rather be somewhere else.

Bayern's pain could be England's gain, however.

After a sensational season over in Germany, he could now challenge the misery of Wednesday night as he looks to win the European Championships with England.

Playing in Germany, where he now lives, will likely serve as added motivation as well.

For now, however, he'll need to lick his wounds and go again.

That's the sort of player Kane is. He isn't somebody to just lie down and give up.

He kept going for years at Tottenham when the north London giants weren't remotely close to challenging for the biggest titles on offer.

And with Bayern one of Europe's best teams, it's only a matter of time before Kane does finally win a trophy for the first time in his career.
