The 20-year-old was delighted as his side made the final of the competition

Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham received a painkilling injection before playing in the club's 2-1 Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, according to reports.

The 20-year-old started the match at the Bernabeu as Los Blancos mounted a stirring comeback to make the final.

Bayern seemed to be heading to Wembley after Alphonso Davies struck in the 8th minute.

However, a late brace from Joselu sent Real through - sparking wild celebrations around their famous stadium in the process.

According to the Daily Mail, Bellingham 'slipped away' from Real's training ground prior to the clash to have a painkilling injection in his knee.

He then later rejoined his team-mates on their way to the ground.

Bellingham suffered a knee problem for Borussia Dortmund last season that saw him miss the final day of the Bundesliga season.

Dortmund drew 2-2 with Mainz last May, with Bayern then going on to win the league for the 11th year in a row

But there was never any chance of Bellingham missing the biggest match of his club career, with the youngster always destined to start.

Bellingham will now look to join a two-man club of English players winning the Champions League with a foreign team.

Owen Hargreaves achieved the feat in 2001 when Bayern beat Valencia on penalties in the final.

And Steve McManaman lifted the Champions League twice while strutting his stuff for Real, with the midfielder winning the trophy in 2000 and 2002 respectively.

Bellingham was asked about the final after helping Real overcome Bayern on Wednesday night.

And the midfielder hailed his side for their fighting spirit, telling TNT Sports: “We have seen it a lot of times this season where it looks like we’re dead and buried.

"It doesn’t matter who scores the goal because someone always manages it. That mentality of never-say-die.

“Joselu, I don’t think he will be sleeping much tonight!

"He will be useless in training tomorrow. But, no honestly he deserves it all.

"He has been an amazing member of the squad throughout the whole season and this is his night.

“They are unbelievable (the fans). They are the best in the world by far.

“Coming here, there is a reason why we turn so many games or why when we’re down in certain legs that we always manage to come back in the second leg.

"It is because of these lot. They give you an energy that you can’t get from anything else.

“You come here and that is all they talk about. They talk about how you’ve had the 14th, but how they want the 15th.

"The lads said it was the same when we won the 10th, all they asked for was the 11th, but that is why I love being here because you can never be settled.”

Asked if he felt any nerves, he added: “Not really.

"I really would want to say I do, but in the changing room, I was looking around and I just thought I couldn’t be in a better position with better people.

“Where else would I rather be? I was seven at Birmingham, dreaming of nights like this.

"To then get here and want to be somewhere else doesn’t make any sense to me. Yeah, I am just so happy to be here and part of this night.

“At Wembley, against Dortmund, it is a weird one.

"I can’t believe it. I am so looking forward to it, the atmosphere, the game itself. A Champions League final, man.”
