The 26-year-old signs from PSG on a five-year deal

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian goalkeeper has penned a five-year deal and joins for a fee of £26million.

The 26-year-old was a pivotal member in PSG's historic season last campaign that saw them lift the Champions League for the first time in their history.

The deal immediately follows the departure of Brazilian shotstopper Ederson, who left the Cityzens to join Fenerbahce in a £12m deal.

“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me,” Donnarumma said to Manchester City media after his move.

“I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by the one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join.

“I have admired watching Manchester City for many years - so to now be able to play for the Club is a huge honour and a privilege.

The 6ft 5in goalkeeper was deemed surplus to requirements in the French capital after they confirmed the £35m signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

PSG boss Luis Enrique left Donnarumma out of his squad completely in their Super Cup victory over Spurs last month, with the gaffer claiming he was "100 per cent responsible" for the decision.

"Donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, no doubt, and even better as a person," Mr Enrique told Sky Italy. "But this is the life of high-level footballers. I am 100 per cent responsible for this difficult decision.

"If it were easy, anyone would do it; these decisions have to do with the profile of the goalkeeper that my team needs."

Donnarumma was said to be keen on signing a new contract with the Parisians, with just one year left on his deal.

The shotstopper was believed to be earning around £185,000-a-week at the French champions, and was seeking a pay rise for his extension.

This was rejected by the club, who have been implementing a new pay structure that involves lower basic salaries but higher personal incentives.

After both parties failed to come to an agreement and the decision was made to leave the club, the Italian said: "Unfortunately someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team's success. I am disappointed and disheartened."

Donnarumma made his debut at the age of just 16 for AC Milan, making 251 appearances before his move to PSG in 2021. During his time at the Parc des Princes, he lifted an astonishing 10 titles.

The 26-year-old also played a pivotal role in Italy’s Euro 2021 triumph, saving crucial penalties against England in the final.
