Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is said to have threatened to resign from the football club last night before Marc Guehi’s proposed move to Liverpool fell through in the last hour.
The deal for Guehi to join the champions was as close as it could be.
The centre-back had agreed to a five-year deal with the club and completed his medical in London, with the Merseyside team sending in a deal sheet to the Premier League in order to complete the signing past the 7pm deadline.
But in South London, things were not running as smoothly. Brighton centre-back Igor Julio, who was on his way to Selhurst Park as a replacement for the departing Guehi, changed his mind and decided to join West Ham instead citing guaranteed game time as his reasoning.
Igor Julio instead chose to move to West Ham in the final hours of Deadline Day, meaning Crystal Palace cancelled the proposed move for Marc Guehi to Liverpool

The last-gasp U-turn left Palace scrambling and without time to find another replacement.
Glasner had already made his feelings clear on the potential sale of his skipper after Sunday’s 3-0 victory away at Aston Villa - a game in which Guehi scored a worldie in what seemed to be his final game for the club.

"Of course, I have mentioned it so often [wanting to keep Guehi]. We have to," the Eagles boss pleaded. "Again, it is if we want a successful season. We have had a fantastic start.
"We had a great start, so it is just the start. The first step is made and for a successful season we need Marc. It is not possible to find a replacement in one day.

With young Toulouse centre-back Jaydee Convot and 27-year-old Igor seemingly on the way to Selhurst Park, Glasner had appeared to have conceded the idea of allowing his skipper to depart the club.
But after the U-turn from Igor, it has been revealed that the Austrian gaffer threatened Steve Parish with his resignation should he sign off on the transfer.

The ultimatum backed Parish into a corner where he could have lost both his manager and star player in the final minutes of the transfer window.
But the chairman opted to keep both at the club, resigning to the fact he will be losing his skipper on a free transfer next summer when his contract expires.

With Guehi completing his medical in Liverpool, the Palace media team were seemingly preparing for his exit and created a three-minute-long exit video, celebrating his four-year stint at the club.
Despite the 25-year-old never completing his move to Merseyside, the full video has been leaked online showing his emotional tribute to the fans.
The video includes many of his goals for the club and his progression from a 21-year-old youngster who didn’t get much of a look-in at Chelsea to an England stalwart and Premier League captain at 25.
During his spell at the club, Guehi cemented himself as a mainstay in the England squad, earning 23 senior caps.
The defender played every minute of every match - bar the quarter-final in which he was suspended - during the Three Lions’ route to the Euro 2024 final, which they ultimately fell short in during extra-time.
