A Salford City fan who flew a banner calling Gary Neville a “traitor” and “scum” has proclaimed their efforts will not wane until they feel heard by the Government, while insisting the former defender's social media rant was "slander".
Neville, 50, sparked fury online when he released a controversial video on LinkedIn blaming “middle-aged white men” for division within the country.
While the video was released just days after a terror attack on a Manchester synagogue that saw two members of the public killed and three others injured, the majority of the rhetoric revolved around flying the Union Jack flag.
The former Manchester United defender suggested the flag had been used as a weapon to create “divisions” within Britain by “angry middle-aged white men who know exactly what they're doing".
He then claimed in the video that he had demanded a Union Jack flag be "instantly" taken down at one of his property developments in Manchester, questioning why anyone would need to display the flag now when they hadn't in the previous 15 to 20 years.
The comments have sparked a division between Neville and many football fans, which was clear as day during Salford City’s 3-1 victory over Stockport County in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday evening.

| LINKEDINThe 50-year-old has been involved as a co-owner along with his former Manchester United team-mates at the club since 2014.
Fans could be seen demonstrating their fury with the former defender, who earned 85 caps for England, with banners being displayed calling him a “traitor” and “scum”.
And, speaking exclusively to GB News, one fan who unveiled a banner revealed much of the stadium was behind the protests, and insisted Neville’s controversial video was “slander”.

“There were a lot of people backing us, a lot of people agree. He [Neville] has turned his back on the British public and totally lost the idea of Britain and forgot about the working man and woman,” the fan said.
“We need a voice, and no one is listening. Flags are our voice because no one is listening - we feel the British people have been forgotten.

Neville, even your own teams fans think you’re a traitor 😂🇬🇧 pic.twitter.com/OHhM0zKCKN
“People like him, who have a platform where millions listen, need to be involved in what is going on. It’s not opinion [the video], it’s slander. It wasn’t factual. British white men are not to blame. It is the Government and what they stand for.
“We feel like he has turned back on the country, British culture, what we believe in. We are proud, we are diverse and tolerant. But to blame British white men for atrocities…

“It wasn’t a British white man who did the [Manchester terror] attack. It wasn’t a British white man who went into a dance studio and killed three innocent girls. It wasn’t a British white man who targeted kids at a concert and killed 22.”
The fan insisted that raising the flags and peaceful protests will not stop until they feel heard by the Government.

“We want it to be as peaceful as possible; we don’t want a counterprotest. We are trying to do things as peacefully as possible.
“We are patriotic, but trying to get our message across. We are not being heard. The flags will keep going up until the government hears us; they are not listening.”
Neville has spent 14 years as a pundit on Sky Sports, however, according to Nigel Farage, has disillusioned much of his demographic as typical football fans, evidenced by the banners.
“He’s actually blaming British white men - the people who actually pay for Sky Sports, and pay his salary," Farage said. Neville is believed to earn a monster salary of £1.1million a year for his role on the broadcaster.
“He is so detached from the average football fan.”
