The FA has opened an investigation into Leeds United supporters following Saturday's match against Tottenham, where fans hurled objects at visiting players during the 2-1 defeat at Elland Road.

The governing body is examining two separate incidents that could result in hefty fines for the West Yorkshire club.

Football authorities have warned they'll respond severely when spectator behaviour threatens player safety.

The incidents have sparked concerns about player welfare and the reputation of the club, with the FA emphasising its commitment to protecting players from dangerous crowd behaviour.

Mohammed Kudus came dangerously close to injury when a bottle flew past his face during his goal celebration.

The winger had just scored Tottenham's second goal and was performing his signature celebration, sitting on a ball boy's stool directly in front of the home supporters.

The defender made light of the situation by pretending to smoke the device before delivering his cross, later posting on social media: "I wasn't in the mood to smoke today. Instead, I wanted to earn three points."

The FA has stated that such actions go beyond emotional expression and directly threaten player safety.

Thomas Frank's Spurs side stretched their unbeaten streak to seven with the 2-1 victory, initially rising to second in the Premier League table. After Arsenal's win later in the day, they were relegated to third.

Mathys Tel opened the scoring after 23 minutes, a thunderous effort, albeit taking a wicked deflection from Leeds defender Pascal Struijk, after good work from Kudus in the build-up.

It was Tel's first goal of the campaign, and he nearly added another before half-time when his header struck the post.

Leeds equalised through Noah Okafor in unusual circumstances - a beach ball entered the pitch but missed the match ball by mere inches. Officials deemed that it wasn't interfering with play.

Kudus restored Tottenham's lead in the second half, scoring from outside the area for his sixth league goal contribution this season, and his first goal.

Despite Leeds pushing for an equaliser for the majority of the second half, Spurs showed a renewed sense of resilience and grit to hold out for yet another three points.
