The Palace star now looks set for a spell on the sidelines

England has suffered a major injury scare as defender Marc Guehi was left on crutches.

The Crystal Palace star is now a doubt for England’s last two World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania due to a foot injury.

He was named in the England squad, named by Thomas Tuchel on Friday, for the next two fixtures.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner revealed Guehi sustained the injury in the closing stages of Thursday’s 3-1 Conference League win against Alkmaar.

He now looks set for a spell on the sidelines.

England, already qualified as group winners, take on Serbia at Wembley next Thursday before facing Albania in Tirana the following Sunday.

Glasner, who will be without Guehi for Sunday’s home Premier League game against Brighton, told Sky Sports News: "Marc was fouled in the last minute against Alkmaar.

"It was a knock on his foot. A bone bruise."

He added: "He can’t even walk at the moment.

"The last two days he is on crutches."

"I don’t know how this develops over the next couple of days. But at the moment it doesn’t look good.

"It looks like he can’t play for England as well."

Guehi, 25, has won 26 caps for England since making his senior debut in a 2-1 friendly win against Switzerland in 2022.

He has been recalled alongside defenders Dan Burn, Reece James, Ezri Konsa, Jarell Quansah, Djed Spence, Nico O'Reilly and John Stones.

The announcement was Tuchel's last squad of the year and a possible indicator of who the German has his eyes on heading into the World Cup next year.

Despite this injury blow, Guehi is heavily tipped to be one of the first names of the team sheet having been a key player and started for the Three Lions over recent years.

Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Tyrone Mings, and Dominic Solanke are all injured, in a further blow to England's plans.

Despite these absences, Jude Bellingham is among the notable names back in the squad after the manager failed to include him in his selection for last month’s games.

The Real Madrid midfielder, 22, has not played for the Three Lions since June, a month before he underwent shoulder surgery.

Manchester City's Phil Foden has also been recalled following his absence last time around.
