Diogo Jota's window paid tribute to the late Liverpool star with an emotional social media post celebrating their youngest child's first birthday.

Rute Cardoso shared multiple photographs on Instagram featuring the late striker with their daughter, accompanied by the simple caption "A whole year" along with heart and star emojis.

The touching images included a photograph of Jota carrying their newborn from the hospital 12 months ago, alongside a family portrait taken on the pitch at Anfield.

One particularly moving image showed the footballer cradling his baby daughter, whilst another captured him with Rute, both dressed in matching pink attire.

The 28-year-old Portuguese forward lost his life in a devastating road accident in July, merely 11 days after his marriage to Rute.

The fatal crash occurred when the Lamborghini he was travelling in experienced a tyre failure and subsequently burst into flames.

Jota had been making his way back to the UK from Portugal in preparation for Liverpool's pre-season schedule.

His 25-year-old brother Andre Silva was also killed in the accident.

The football community was left devastated by the news, with prominent figures from across the sport expressing their condolences to the family.

The couple's relationship spanned 13 years after they first met in school.

They had three children: two sons, Dinis and Duarte, and their daughter.

Jota had announced the pregnancy during Euro 2024 by placing the ball beneath his shirt after scoring against Czechia, though the goal was subsequently disallowed.

The family relocated to Merseyside in 2020 when the striker joined Liverpool.

A month after their wedding, Rute had shared photographs of their celebration with the caption: "1 month of our 'until death do us part'. For ever, your white girl."

Liverpool Football Club have permanently withdrawn the number 20 jersey across all their squads in honour of the former player.

The club held a minute's silence before their opening Premier League fixture against Bournemouth this season, with Jota's family in attendance at the stadium.

Supporters have maintained their own tribute throughout the campaign, applauding and singing the striker's song at the 20-minute mark of each home match at Anfield.

These gestures reflect the profound impact the Portuguese international had during his time on Merseyside.

Followers responded to Rute's birthday post with messages of support, with one writing: "Wish he was still here to raise his baby girl. We will never ever forget you Diogo."

Another said: “I teared up while scrolling. Wishing your family nothing but happiness.”
