The pair were approached by a man who is accused of brandishing a firearm and making threats.

It is believed that the confrontation came after Udogie chose to cut professional ties with the agent, according to Telegraph Sport.

The suspect is also alleged to have blackmailed and made threats against the player's friend.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 11.14pm on Saturday, September 6, to reports a man in his twenties had been threatened with a firearm on Cockfosters Parade, Barnet.

“Officers spoke to the victim and during the course of their investigation it was also reported another man in his twenties had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual.

"No injuries were reported in either incident.

“A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, September 8 on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence."

The suspect has since been released on bail.

A source close to the investigation said: “This was a terrifying incident and one which has sent shockwaves through the business side of football.

“The player was understandably shaken up... He reported it right away. It was the right thing to do for his safety.

“He has been supported by his friends and club, and they hope this will not affect his performances. But there will be serious questions about why this happened, which the police are now trying to answer.”

The agent has been prohibited from making contact with Udogie directly or visiting Spurs' training ground.

Court documents also confirmed that the suspected had initially been barred from leaving the UK, but had this overturned after successfully applying for a variation to his bail conditions.

He is said to currently be overseas, but will surrender his passport upon his return to the country next month.
