The President was left with one medal left after the ceremony

President Donald Trump was seen distributing medals to Chelsea players following their Club World Cup victory in New Jersey on Sunday, leading to social media jokes about him pocketing absent Noni Madueke's medal.

Trump joined Reece James, Cole Palmer and Robert Sanchez with the trophy. Palmer later revealed his confusion about the President's inclusion in the celebrations.

Madueke had left the tournament early after featuring five times, ahead of his planned Monday medical with Arsenal.

Arsenal are set to complete the £52million signing of the England international, who has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract.

"OI TRUMP TOOK MADUEKE'S MEDAL," one fan posted, whilst another wrote: "Donald Trump joined the Chelsea team to represent Madueke. He even retained his winner's medal."

The winger has managed 20 goals and nine assists in 92 appearances since joining Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven for £26 million in January 2023.

His arrival forms part of Arsenal's busy transfer window, with Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard already secured. The Gunners are reportedly pursuing Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and remain in talks with Sporting Club for Viktor Gyokeres.

The move offers Madueke a chance to establish himself ahead of next summer's World Cup under Thomas Tuchel.

Rather than celebrating with his team-mates in New Jersey, Madueke was spotted enjoying Drake's performance at Wireless Festival in Finsbury Park on Sunday night.

The 22-year-old had departed the Club World Cup squad at the weekend following five appearances in the tournament. He returned to the UK as he prepares for the next stage of his career.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Despite his early exit, Madueke will still receive a winner's medal for his contributions to Chelsea's successful campaign.

His absence from the trophy presentation meant he missed the unusual sight of President Trump participating in the medal ceremony and subsequent celebrations with the victorious Chelsea squad.

Madueke was seen in the crowd with former Chelsea team-mate Jadon Sancho. Sancho won't be joining the Blues permanently after blowing hot and cold following his loan move from Manchester United last summer.

A fan petition has been launched opposing Madueke's potential transfer, though he would provide valuable support for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli on Arsenal's flanks.
