The Prime Minister of Hungary claimed the President of the EU Commission used the word 'Ukraine' 35 times during her annual State of the Union address

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he has submitted a no-confidence vote in Ursula von der Leyen.

In a damning social media post, Mr Orban said the President of the EU Commission "must go".

The Hungarian PM is part of the right-wing Patriots for Europe group, which revealed plans yesterday to launch a censure motion against Mrs von der Leyen, saying "enough is enough".

The group said: "We are officially presenting a motion of censure against Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission.

"Enough is enough - it’s time to hold Brussels accountable."

Vice President of the group and Hungarian politician, Kinga Gál, said: "This Commission and its President have failed to cope with the most pressing challenges that Europe is facing.

"They have failed on peace, on trade, on competitiveness, on migration.

“Instead of providing solutions, this Commission has become the problem itself.

"We need a leadership that finally represents the interests of the European people. It is time for Ursula von der Leyen to go.”

In a post to Facebook, Mr Orban referenced Mrs von der Leyen's annual State of the Union address address delivered in European Parliament yesterday, in which he claimed the word "Ukraine" was said 35 times.

He wrote: "We submitted the Patriots' motion of no confidence: von der Leyen must go!

"Great challenges, bloody debates. Changes are coming, whether we want them or not.

"The question is what answers we give. A Brussels answer or a Hungarian answer?"

Last week, Mr Orban said the next election being held in Hungary in 2026 would present Hungarians with a choice between a party prepared to go-it-alone or one that would usher in "chaos and poverty" by aligning the country more closely with the European Union.

The Prime Minister, who has said the EU was at risk of falling apart over the next decade, is looking to fend off centre-right challenger Peter Magyar.

"Hungary has only two choices in a strategic sense, Mr Orban told supporters of his right-wing Fidesz party.

"One choice is that we join the politics of Brussels. This, in my view, would be catastrophic, with consequences pushing us into chaos and poverty."

Mr Orban has repeatedly clashed with the EU over the rights of migrants, the LGBT community, freedom of courts and academics and support for neighbouring Ukraine since Russia's invasion in February 2022.
