Atletico Madrid have launched an extraordinary public attack on Barcelona amid growing speculation linking Julian Alvarez with a sensational move to the Catalan giants.
The LaLiga rivals became embroiled in a fresh war of words on Friday after Atletico used the club's official social media channels to mock Barcelona and accuse the reigning Spanish champions of orchestrating a campaign aimed at unsettling one of their star players.
The dispute comes after reports in Spain claimed Barcelona and Arsenal were both monitoring Alvarez's situation in Madrid.
The former Manchester City forward has enjoyed a prolific spell since joining Atletico, scoring 49 goals in 106 appearances, and is regarded as one of the most valuable players in Diego Simeone's squad.

Reports earlier this week suggested Atletico had grown increasingly frustrated by continued speculation surrounding the Argentina international's future, with some outlets claiming the club had privately warned potential suitors to abandon hopes of signing the striker.
The situation escalated dramatically on Friday when Atletico's official X account published a series of tongue-in-cheek posts featuring Barcelona stars digitally edited into Atletico shirts.
The first image showed teenage sensation Lamine Yamal wearing Atletico colours.
Accompanying the image was a mock transfer proposal directed at Barcelona.

"HERE WE GO! We have sent a fax to FC Barcelona with our transfer offer: four tickets for tomorrow's Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds," Atletico wrote.
"We eagerly await the response."
A second post featured midfielder Pedri and jokingly claimed Atletico had improved the offer after running out of tickets for the original concert date.
Moments later, another post showed Raphinha in an Atletico shirt as the club continued the joke by proposing a loan deal involving fictional terms and exaggerated conditions.

While the posts were intended to mock transfer speculation, Atletico's tone soon became considerably more serious.
In a lengthy statement, the club denied reports suggesting they had approached Barcelona sporting director Deco about joining Atletico's scouting department.
The statement then turned its attention towards the ongoing rumours surrounding Alvarez.
"Atletico de Madrid would never do something like that," the club said.
"However, in recent months, we've been suffering a smear campaign against one of our players.
"Leaked information with ulterior motives, fake news, constant disrespect, the cule version of the propaganda machine inventing little stories, calls before direct matchups."
Atletico then appeared to reference several controversies that have surrounded Barcelona in recent years.
"But of course, it wouldn't occur to us either to have the referees' vice president on our payroll or to resort to political favours to register players.

"RESPECT and VALUES."
The club had earlier teased the statement by posting a video appearing to show a lion chasing a group of people before revealing it was actually a dog.
The accompanying caption read: "Barca trying to sign one of your players."
Amid the escalating tensions, speculation surrounding Alvarez has shown little sign of slowing down.
Spanish reports have suggested the 26-year-old believes Barcelona could provide a stronger platform for future silverware, while Alvarez's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, recently fuelled rumours further by posting an image from Barcelona on social media.
Despite the mounting transfer talk, Atletico's position remains unchanged.
Club officials are adamant Alvarez is not for sale and have grown increasingly frustrated by what they view as a sustained attempt to destabilise one of their most important players.
