When Arne Slot guided Liverpool to the Premier League title 12 months ago, fans expected the Dutchman to build a dynasty.
However, the 47-year-old has now been relieved of his duties after a poor campaign that saw them emphatically knocked off their perch.
Liverpool expected big things last season. Having splashed the cash on a host of big names, from Alexander Isak to Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike to Milos Kerkez, many expected them to win the Premier League title.
Instead, Arsenal soared to the crown - with their rivals ending the season in fifth, 25 points adrift.
As recently as earlier this month, Liverpool were adamant that they'd be sticking with Slot.
They even opted against pursuing an appointment for Xabi Alonso, who has since agreed to take charge of Chelsea.
But Liverpool have since confirmed Slot's departure, with the board insisting that the decision hadn't been made lightly.
GB News now takes a look at the four reasons for his dismissal.
1) Results
Arne Slot's time as Liverpool manager is over with Andoni Iraola poised to come in as his replacement | PAFootball managers are defined by their results.
Slot isn't the first manager, and he won't be the last, to win the Premier League title then endure a nigtmare comedown from that dizzying high.
Just ask Jose Mourinho and Claudio Ranieri, who were axed by Chelsea and Leicester respectively despite guiding them to the country's biggest trophy.

Liverpool's results under Arne Slot weren't good enough during the Dutchman's second season in charge
| GETTYLiverpool, simply put, weren't good enough last season.
They won 17 of their 38 league matches, finished behind Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Aston Villa and failed to win either of the Carabao, FA Cup or Champions League.
For a team of Liverpool's stature, that isn't good enough. And Slot, of course, has now paid the price.

2) Dressing room mutiny

Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot clashed at Liverpool, with neither man to be at the club next season
| PADuring his first season in charge, Slot united the dressing room as Liverpool dominated the league.
Cracks have appeared, however, and they only seemed to widen as the campaign went on.
It's an open secret that Slot and Mohamed Salah didn't see eye-to-eye and, earlier this month, the Egyptian took aim at his manager by suggesting they needed a return to the 'heavy metal football' days of Jurgen Klopp.
Most notably, his post was liked by Wirtz, Ekitike, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Andy Robertson, Jeremie Frimpong, Ibrahima Konaté, Ryan Gravenberch, Giovanni Leoni, Calvin Ramsay and Wataru Endo.
That so many individuals backed Salah showed that Slot had lost the dressing room.
With so many players disillusioned, the board felt compelled to act.
3) Failure to evolve the team

Liverpool regressed under Arne Slot despite forking out huge fees for the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz
| GETTYAs mentioned above, Liverpool spent big last summer.
Around £450million was splurged on new signings, with none of them evolving the team to their manager's liking.
A year before, Slot had won the Premier League title with the same team Klopp had left behind.
But the minute he put his own stamp on things, results and performances worsened. Seemingly, the 47-year-old had been found out.
Liverpool's hierarchy, ultimately, felt giving him the keys to the kingdom once again would have set them back further.
4) Andoni Iraola's availability
Andoni Iraola is the frontrunner to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool | PAAndoni Iraola is set to replace Slot at Anfield.
And the Spaniard's availability following his departure from Bournemouth means the Reds see him as a golden opportunity.
Iraola did special things at the Vitality Stadium, guiding the Cherries to sixth with European football now lying in store.
He's also established himself as one of the most exciting managers in the world, with Bournemouth's attacking, enterprising style of football hugely admired.
Iraola being on the market played a role in Slot's axing. How he now fares as his replacement is something only time will tell.
