Eight years following his departure from the Emirates Stadium, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been permitted to train at Arsenal's London Colney facilities whilst searching for a new club.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who became a free agent after his Turkish club Besiktas terminated his contract during the summer, has been working on his fitness alongside Mikel Arteta's squad.

Photos revealed the experienced player participating in training exercises as Arsenal prepared for their Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague on Tuesday evening.

The club has granted their former player access to their training ground to maintain his physical condition.

This privilege is not uncommon, with multiple examples of free agents returning to their former clubs' training grounds.

Notably, Cristiano Ronaldo trained with Real Madrid after returning from the 2022 World Cup at the age of 37.

Oxlade-Chamberlain featured in nearly 200 matches for Arsenal following his 2011 transfer from Southampton.

His 2017 switch to Liverpool for £35million, which remains Arsenal's highest-ever sale, proved contentious among supporters.

Reports indicated he declined a new contract from Arsenal before completing his deadline-day move to Anfield.

Following his transfer, he remarked: "I've had injuries in the past where it's been difficult because pressure from fans has been 'he's injured again' or 'we can't trust him he's always injured'."

He added: "But I've got injured here and I've had nothing but positive feedback from the fans, which for me I can't thank them enough and that's what keeps me going every day to try and reward their patience and support."

Despite the controversial nature of his exit, Oxlade-Chamberlain's time at Arsenal yielded significant silverware, including three FA Cup victories in 2014, 2015 and 2017.

His subsequent spell at Liverpool brought further honours, with the midfielder securing a Premier League title, Champions League trophy, UEFA Super Cup and Carabao Cup.

The former England international, who earned 35 caps for his country, experienced a challenging period at Besiktas.

Although he claimed a Turkish Cup medal last season across 50 appearances and five goals, his time in Turkey concluded abruptly when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival saw him excluded from the squad, resulting in a £1.5million contract termination agreement.

Following his departure from Turkey, the midfielder has been connected with several English clubs, including Premier League side Leeds United, alongside Championship teams Leicester City and Birmingham City.

Despite these reported links, no transfer has been finalised.

A return to English football would mean Oxlade-Chamberlain is reunited with his partner, Perrie Edwards, with the pair having a child together.

The couple have never lived together due to the player's frequent relocations throughout his career.

Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League, six points clear of Manchester City and seven points ahead of in-form Bournemouth.
