Frank Warren has confirmed that a rematch clause exists for Fabio Wardley following his defeat to Daniel Dubois, though the promoter made clear that any second meeting between the heavyweight rivals remains a distant prospect.

Warren, who represents both fighters, stressed the importance of allowing the pair adequate recovery time after their brutal encounter.

The veteran promoter indicated that neither boxer should expect to return to action in the near future, with an extended period away from the ring considered essential.

Speaking to talkSport after the bout, Warren said: "There is a rematch clause, but I don't think that'll be happening anytime soon.

"They're going to have to be out of the ring for a little while yet. Probably six months at least."

The promoter was effusive in his assessment of what the two heavyweights had produced, describing the event in glowing terms.

"It was just amazing. It was one of the best shows I've ever put on," Warren added, reflecting on a contest that many observers have already hailed as one of British boxing's finest encounters.

The contest itself proved to be a remarkable spectacle that swung dramatically in its early stages.

Dubois found himself on the canvas from the opening exchange and was floored again in the third round, with Wardley appearing poised for a swift victory.

However, the Londoner mounted an impressive comeback, establishing his jab effectively and landing telling right hands that inflicted significant damage around Wardley's right eye and nose.

As Dubois seized control, medical officials monitored Wardley's condition closely.

The end arrived in the eleventh round when a devastating right hand from Dubois prompted referee Howard Foster to halt proceedings and protect Wardley from further punishment.

Speaking after his victory, the 28-year-old said: "It was a war, we went through the sticky moments.

"Thank you Fabio for that, thank you. I know I've got heart, bundles of heart. I'm a warrior in there."
