The Prime Minister of the UK has pledged to bring back national service for youngsters if elected

Royal commentator Lizzie Cundy has claimed that Rishi Sunak's plan to bring back national service in the UK could benefit the younger members of the Royal Family.

The Prime Minister has said that if re-elected in July, he intends to give 18-year-olds the choice of a full-time military placement for 12 months, or a scheme to volunteer for one weekend a month for a year.

The policy has faced criticism from ministers, but Cundy believes that it is a "great thing" for both society and the Royal Family.

Speaking to Nana Akua on GBN America, she said: "I think it's a great thing. I think it's a great thing for our society, for the younger generation and I think it's a great thing for the Royal Family.

"Many of the younger ones in the royals [George, Charlotte and Louis] will be going and doing this if the Conservative Party do get in. I think that can be nothing but a good thing for us to see them out in our communities working and helping.

"I think it's what we need in this country right now, where there's a lot of disillusionment in the younger generations that just live in their bedrooms. They are hermits basically.

"It's great that they're going to be out there focusing and getting opportunities. And I think it's wonderful that the Royal Family could be involved with this."
