Omid Scobie has plunged the late Queen into a bitter racism row after claiming an appointment made by the late monarch insulted Meghan.

The writer has suggested that Meghan was insulted when Palace aides assigning the late Queen's black equerry to make her "feel comfortable".

In his new book Endgame, Scobie has claimed the suggested appointment of the Ghana-born Lieutenant Colonel "stood out like a sore thumb."

Scobie has constantly denied that Meghan was a direct source for the book.

He wrote: "When Palace aides told reporters, including myself, they ‘bent over backwards’ to make Meghan feel comfortable at Buckingham Palace, this included a follow-up suggestion that perhaps the Queen’s Ghanaian-born household cavalry officer Lieutenant Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah should be the one to help Meghan.

"Though a charming and intelligent man, it stood out like a sore thumb to Meghan and her friends."

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun on Sunday: "If Scobie’s account is correct, she was offered Lady Susan Hussey and turned her down. Then she was offered the Ghanaian-born equerry to the Queen.

"I don’t know who she thought should be helping her but presumably not an equerry or a lady-in-waiting."

It comes as an early Dutch version of the book caused controversy after it named two senior royals of having allegedly had "concerns" about the skin colour of Harry and Meghan’s son Archie.

The Dutch version of Endgame named the two royals in question as King Charles and Princess Kate.

Copies of the Dutch version had to be pulled from bookstores across Holland.

Scobie's controversial new book sold just under 6,500 copies in Britain.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are then mentioned frequently in the book, mostly in a very positive light.

Neither Harry nor Meghan commented publicly on the naming row but a source close to the Duchess of Sussex said "it was not leaked to Mr Scobie by anyone in her camp".

Dutch publisher, Xaner Uitgevers, initially blamed the allegations on a "translation error" but has since rolled back on that claim.

The latest statement from the publisher simply states "an error" occurred in the Dutch edition.
