Charles has been in hospital receiving treatment for an enlarged prostate

Queen Camilla has been praised for a “very touching” move which broke royal protocol by author Angela Levin.

The Queen opted to attend hospital alongside her husband as he arrived for treatment on an enlarged prostate.

It is custom for members of the Royal Family to attend hospital by themselves, but Camilla went against that with her show of support for the King.

“I think it’s very touching that Camilla has ignored all the protocol that you don’t go with your husband if he’s a King and you’re a Queen”, Levin said on GB News.

“She wants to sit there and be with him. She said to me once that one of their favourite things is when they’re in Scotland, they sit by a fire, he’s reading his book and she’s reading his. It’s so lovely.”

GB News presenter Isabel Webster waded in on the discussion to comment that the scenario sounds like her idea of “heaven”.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

It comes as Charles left hospital after spending three nights receiving medical care.

The 75-year-old smiled and waved to a few well-wishers as he left the private London Clinic on Monday afternoon with the Queen by his side.

Camilla had arrived at the hospital ahead of the King being discharged, and had visited her husband every day since he was admitted on Friday.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The King was this afternoon discharged from hospital following planned medical treatment and has rescheduled forthcoming public engagements to allow for a period of private recuperation.

“His Majesty would like to thank the medical team and all those involved in supporting his hospital visit, and is grateful for all the kind messages he has received in recent days.”

He left the London Clinic a few hours after the Princess of Wales was discharged from the same hospital, almost two weeks after undergoing abdominal surgery.

Charles spent time at his daughter-in-law’s bedside before his own treatment.

The King’s stay in hospital had lasted longer than expected, lasting three nights instead of the originally planned two.

Levin told Eamonn Holmes and Webster on GB News that she was “worried” by the development.

"I am worried because you always think that they say a little bit longer than it was going to be so people wouldn't get worried”, she said.

"So if it's three nights then you you do get worried. And I thought that Camilla was smiling the other days, but yesterday she seemed not so smiley.

"That might have been because of the time the photograph was taken. I think when you are 75, it's very difficult to know actually how one thing can't trigger something else.

"Perhaps he's very tired. Perhaps he's worked so hard for so long that the body is a bit tired of when you've had some sort of operation, then you need longer to come back again."
