A stunning Sarah Ferguson portrait by a renowned artist will be sold to raise money for cancer patients.

Kyle Lucks, an American artist, has painted a portrait of the Duchess of York wearing a green dress and a gorgeous necklace and earrings.

The portrait will be sold with all the proceeds going to cancer patients.

The charity Cancer Alliance Palm Beach has also asked Sarah to be a speaker for cancer patients and she has accepted, according to reports.

The necklace worn by Sarah in the portrait was a gift from her ex-husband's parents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, on her wedding day in 1986.

The diamond demi-parure from Garrard was worn by the duchess several times in the 1980s and 90s.

The jewellery made headlines in 1995 after the necklace and its matching bracelet, thought to be worth around £385,000, were stolen from Sarah's suitcase while travelling between New York and London.

A baggage handler found the jewellery in Sarah's luggage at Kennedy International Airport and later said: "I figured it was worth something," according to The New York Times.

"Clearly Kyle Lucks is a very talented artist."

Earlier this month, it was announced by Sarah's spokesperson that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer.

The duchess's spokesperson said: "Her dermatologist asked that several moles were removed and analysed at the same time as the duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous.

"She was undergoing further investigations to ensure this had been caught in the early stages.

"She believes her experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, colour and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma."

This diagnosis came just a few months after Fergie underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery for breast cancer.
