The Princess of Wales has undergone planned abdominal surgery at The London Clinic

Royal Correspondent Michael Cole has revealed where Princess Kate will be recovering from surgery, after having a planned procedure on her abdomen.

In a statement released by Kensington Palace, it was revealed that the Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic on Tuesday to have the "planned procedure".

The Palace Instagram account also confirmed that the surgery was a "success", announcing the latest health update.

The statement said: "Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.

"The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery.

"Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter."

Speaking to GB News, Royal Correspondent Michael Cole revealed that Prince William will also be stepping back from royal duties until Princess Kate has recovered, which is "indicative" of the "seriousness" of her surgery.

He added that Prince William not making a statement following his visit to see his wife in hospital today shows her current condition, but suggested there may be a "short statement" in the near future.

Cole revealed to GB News: "She's going to be in hospital for up to two weeks as she improves, and I hope she does very rapidly.

"As her condition approves, I'm sure the children will also go down to see her.

"After she fully recovers she will convalesce initially at Windsor at Adelaide Cottage where they have a house in the grounds."

Cole added: "They will stay there I think because the children are at school and she will want to be close to her children."

He also shared key details about the Windsor residence which may hinder Princess Kate's recovery.

Cole claimed: "It's not an absolutely ideal place. A former tenant of Adelaide Cottage was Mrs Rosemary Townsend, the wife of Group Captain Peter Townsend, who famously had an affair with Princess Margaret.

"And she wrote in her memoirs that it was the coldest place she'd ever encountered in the whole of her life.

"So maybe not the best place to start feeling better, particularly in this quite cold winter that we're enjoying at the moment."
