Princess Eugenie has said she is "honoured" to work with King Charles, despite her father, Prince Andrew, remaining sidelined.

The Princess of York has been announced as a mentor for the King's Foundation's newly launched "35 under 35 network," a role that supports her uncle, King Charles's charity.

She said in a video posted on Instagram: "Hi, everyone. It is such an honour to be here today at the Garrison Chapel celebrating the King's Foundation and its 35 years.

"I am supporting the 35 under 35 program, which is mentoring 35 people.

"It's my 35 years, and it's such a great thing to honour His Majesty's celebration of traditional arts, nature, sustainability. And I'm very proud to be here."

The announcement came on May 22, with the 35-year-old princess visiting the Garrison Chapel in London last week to connect with mentees.

This appointment represents a significant boost for Princess Eugenie, who has faced challenges finding her place within the Royal Family in recent years.

Experts have noted that despite being well-liked by other members of The Firm, she has had to navigate the difficulties associated with her father, Prince Andrew's scandals.

The Duke of York stepped down as a working royal in 2019 after his controversial Newsnight interview and has subsequently been kept out of the public eye.

Reports also suggested that the King was keen for Andrew to vacate his property, Royal Lodge, and relocate to a smaller and less expensive property.

King Charles is reportedly fond of both Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice due to their independent career paths. The new mentorship role demonstrates the King's trust in his niece and provides her with an opportunity to represent the monarchy in areas aligned with her interests.

Photos released with the announcement showed Princess Eugenie smiling during her private visit to the King's Foundation's exhibition space, where she posed for a group photo with the network participants.

The appointment comes less than two months after Eugenie celebrated her own 35th birthday in March, making her participation in the Foundation's 35th anniversary celebrations particularly fitting.

In a statement, Princess Eugenie expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, saying: "I'm delighted to be working with this group of exceptional young people who have been selected thanks to their outstanding work in areas The King is passionate about."

She added: "Given I recently celebrated my 35th birthday, it's fitting to take part in the charity's 35th anniversary celebrations and share my passion for art with the 35 under 35!"

The focus of the King's Foundation aligns well with Princess Eugenie's existing interests and career. She currently serves as a director at the art gallery Hauser & Wirth and supports several organisations focused on conservation, art and health.
