Princess Anne was present at a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey to mark VE Day.

The 74-year-old royal with strong ties to Britain's armed forces observed flowers being laid at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.

Anne joined The King and Queen, The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent and her husband Sir Tim Laurence at the ceremony.

They gathered to commemorate 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe, on May 8, 1945, when allied powers formally accepted Germany’s unconditional surrender.

King Charles and the Prince of Wales will also lay flowers at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior at the ceremony.

Anne was also present to witness a reflective reading by Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Veterans of Britain’s most destructive conflict will also be present at Westminster Abbey.

Before departing, Queen Camilla will lead the Royal Family in laying flowers at the Innocent Victims’ Memorial, outside the Abbey’s West Door.

Britain’s armed forces and military service is a particularly important issue for Princess Anne, who is known for her commitment to the forces around the country and the Commonwealth.

Anne is regularly seen in full military regalia at events such as VE Day, owed to her rank in a variety of armed forces.

The Princess was named Rear Admiral of the Royal Navy in 1993 and was promoted to Vice Admiral in 2009 and then Admiral in 2012.

She was given the title of General in the British Army and an Air Chief Marshal in the Royal Air Force in 2020.
