The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital on Tuesday for a planned procedure

Pippa, James and Carole Middleton have rallied around Princess Kate following her abdominal surgery.

The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital on Tuesday for planned abdominal surgery, and is expected to remain in hospital for between 10 and 14 days.

Kate's parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, and her siblings Pippa and James are said to have cleared their diaries to support the princess's recovery.

They are also helping take care of Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

Kate is reportedly "doing well" as she recovers following the procedure at the London Clinic in Marylebone.

The Princess of Wales's statement from Kensington Palace announced that Prince William would shortly step back from royal duties to care for his wife and children.

As a result, it is expected that Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh will carry out the majority of royal engagements.

Kate is not expected to return to public events until after Easter, and William will remain by his wife's and children's side throughout.

Planned tours for the Prince and Princess of Wales over the coming months will also no longer take place.

It was reported that the couple were planning on visiting Italy in the Spring.

Kate's parents Carole and Michael and her siblings Pippa and James will support the princess's recovery at her home, Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

Adelaide Cottage is close to their own homes as the whole Middleton family lives in the Berkshire area.

The nature of Kate's condition has not been revealed although Kensington Palace aides confirmed it was not cancer-related.

The Palace did not divulge any details, citing Kate's "medical privacy" as the reason.

However, the official statement did not rule out the fact that Kate may choose to speak publicly about the surgery in the future.

After the news broke on Wednesday that the princess was in hospital, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles would soon seek treatment for an enlarged prostate.
