The joke is not the first time the Duchess of Sussex has faced ribbing on the other side of the pond

Ryan Reynolds has issued a cheeky dig at Meghan Markle and her lifestyle brand As Ever, formally known as American Riviera Orchard.

The Canadian actor, 48, made the jibe while chatting with talk show host Conan O'Brien.

Reminiscing about his father, Reynolds revealed his dad had once been a police officer before becoming a foods wholesaler – which he humorously labelled as a “food broker” and a “middleman for jars of jam”.

Amidst his mirth at the comment, O’Brien cut in and questioned: 'What?! He works for Meghan Markle!”

Turning to his production team with squinted eyes and adopting a codvillainous voice, the host said: “Tiny jams. Harvestable jams. Made from the oils of Montecito.”

Mocking a thoughtful expression, Reynolds replied wistfully: “If Jimbo Reynolds wasn't dead, I'd say he is Meghan Markle'.

Well... adjacent,” the 48-year-old added.

Concluding the barb, O’Brien sarcastically suggested: “Many people have likened the two.”

It is not the first time the Duchess of Sussex has been on the receiving end of jokes in recent weeks.

Meghan and her husband Prince Harry being dealt a brutal put down by US comedy show Saturday Night Live were mocked as part of a regular spoof news segment on the NBC programme.

Comedians Colin Jost and Michael Che hosted the Weekend Update segment where they portray buttoned down newsmen.

In the sketch, 42-year-old Jost announced the news of the trade deal being struck between Britain and the US – which quickly turned into a dig at the Sussexes.

“President Trump also announced a new trade deal with the UK which will reopen British companies,” the comedian began while a graphic of the British and American flag appeared behind him.

“All that Britain demands in return is that we keep these two,” he said as the graphic morphed into an image and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Jost nearly broke character, his poker face betrayed by a quivering lip, as the audience descended into hysterics.

The recent raft of mockery in the US follows the release of fresh polling data that suggested Meghan was less popular that several members of the Royal Family.

Only 41 per cent of those polled said they regarded the Duchess of Sussex positively, while a full quarter of respondents revealed they viewed her negatively.

The damming numbers leave Meghan lagging behind royals such as Princess Kate, Princess William and King Charles.

Just under half - 49 per cent - of the 1,296 US adults polled felt positively about the Princess of Wales, while only six per cent were left with a negative impression.

The King emerged with just under half of those asked approving of him, with a 27 per cent strong contingent of respondents did not regard him in the best of lights.

Prince William proved to be the most popular living royal with a huge 63 per cent backing him against only 10 per cent that did not.
