A confusing start procedure saw a couple more formation laps, reducing the grand prix down to 68 trips around the circuit, and Arvid Lindblad not starting the race.
Finally, when proceedings got underway, world champion Norris made an incredible start, overtaking both Mercedes into turn one.
He was forced into the pit lane by the end of turn two, after the McLarens set off on the wrong tyre choice, opting for the intermediates when the softs or mediums were the right call.
Antonelli advanced into the lead as the Italian sped off with his teammate Russell and Hamilton.

The Mercedes nearly crashed into each other heading into lap seven as Russell overtook Antonelli, with the Italian drastically locking up going off the track but avoiding contact.
Verstappen surged past Hamilton into third by lap nine as the Red Bull started to move nicely for the Dutchman.
Alex Albon's race ended on lap 13 after having a collision with Oscar Piastri, who was given a 10-second penalty, as the bad luck for the Williams driver continues.

Antonelli finally got in front of his teammate on lap 22 with a brilliant overtake down the main straight.
The Italian lost the lead momentarily after locking up at the hairpin, as the pair clashed wheels, with Antonelli going off the track, then taking back the lead.
He was forced to give the position back to Russell, expressing his displeasure on the radio, saying: "What's the point?"
The battling soon came to its end as Russell was forced to retire on lap 31, pulling up on the road after a power-unit failure.

He threw his gloves on the floor and appeared visibly frustrated as a virtual safety car was deployed, with several drivers using the opportunity to pit.
Lando Norris was also forced to retire, pulling up on lap 40 with a gearbox problem.
Sergio Perez's day was also over by lap 42 after a bizarre situation saw his wheel nearly pop off.
Charles Leclerc nearly lost control of his Ferrari with 14 laps to go, but saved it excellently to stay in fourth place.
On lap 62, after a long and enduring battle with Verstappen, Hamilton launched himself past the Dutchman at turn one to go into second place.
Antonelli saw it out and welcomed the chequered flag, getting his fourth grand prix win of the season.
