Young Declan Sawyer tragically died after getting into difficulty in the water, police confirmed

Police divers have found the body of a 15-year-old boy who went missing in a lake in Lincoln.

Late on Sunday night, Lincolnshire Police named the teenager as Declan Sawyer after he was found.

In a statement, the force said: "We can update that our dive team have sadly found a body in the water at Swanholme Lakes, Lincoln.

"With agreement from the family we can share that the boy who died is 15-year-old Declan Sawyer.

"Our thoughts are with his family and we send our condolences at this incredibly difficult time.

"This is such a sad incident that will no doubt also affect many of Declan's friends and the local community as well.

"As we are starting half-term week, we ask our community to make sure that anyone affected is looked after and that people are encouraged to seek help and support where they need it."

Earlier, emergency services had been called to the water after reports the boy had gone missing.

Police said they had been called at 2.30pm.

Both in the afternoon and after confirming Declan's death late in the evening, the force urged against speculation about the incident.

Officers also denied false reports the 15-year-old had been found earlier in the afternoon.

Their statement added: "It is vitally important that people do not speculate or share information that is not accurate. Information that the boy has been found at this time is wrong. We will update our information when we can."

Swanholme Lakes is a local nature reserve and a nationally recognised Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

To allow emergency services to operate "without disruption and maintain dignity", the public were asked not to visit or gather near Swanholme Lakes amid the police search.

Advice issued by Lincoln Council says the lakes are for wildlife only, and that swimming and paddling, by people or dogs, disturbs wildlife and can be dangerous and hazardous to health.
