Meghan Markle was all smiles as she made her first public appearance since her split from streaming giant Netflix earlier this month.

On Thursday, the Duchess of Sussex was seen with her close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen.

The pair were attending the Alliance for Children’s Rights' 34th Annual Champion for Children event held in Beverly Hills, California.

Meghan stepped out wearing a strapless navy Ralph Lauren gown, accompanied by a pair of gold Chanel earrings and gold bracelets.

Ms McKee Zafjen arrived at the event in a black gown that featured long sleeves and a high neck.

She co-founded the Alliance of Moms to support the Alliance for Children’s Rights in 2014, which provides legal services, education, safe housing, and support for at-risk children.

The Alliance of Moms works to support pregnant and parenting teens in the foster care system.

Meghan awarded her friend an award in honour of their close friendship for her philanthropic work during the ceremony.

The public appearance comes just a few weeks after Netflix and the duchess’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, severed ties.

Earlier this month, it was announced that after a year of working together, Meghan would take full ownership of her brand, with Netflix stepping back.

Netflix provided backend staff as well as development teams to help As Ever when it launched in March 2025, but they are now being organised by the duchess.

Well-placed insiders claimed that the relationship between the streaming site and the Sussexes has been "far from a fairytale".

Sources told Variety: "The Sussexes' perceived pattern of selling repackaged versions of the same story about their exit from royal life has exhausted Netflix.

"Their partnership may continue to taper off, and with it will Meghan and Harry's remaining showbusiness lifeline."

One insider explained that "the mood in the building is 'we're done'."

Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, set the record straight following the report, saying: “We still have a relationship with them. We have movies in development with them. We have an amazing doc with them.

“They have things in development on the TV and film side. Deals come and go all the time, and we don’t renew so many deals, those just don’t get as much press for obvious reasons. There’s no juicy story there,” Ms Bajaria said at a press event.
